Commercial Description:
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

2006 vintage bottle from bleeng at December Houston tasting. Thanks! Pours thick black with an off-white head and an aroma of thick bourbon and hints of wood chip and caramel. Flavor is vegetable bourbon yeast dough and earth. Full and coating mouthfeel. Too earthy for my taste.

750 2006 version. Shared at Houston Impy Stout tasting. Pours black, filtered. Nose of bourbon and alcohol with malts and sweetness. Taste of whiskey but a bit subtle. Very malty, fluffy, sweet. A bit dry on the end. This has aged very nicely. Very drinkable and a nice beer to share.

Sampled at FoBAB 2008. Pours darkest brown with a minimal off-white head. Aroma of bourbon and dark fruit. Lots of bourbon in the flavor and it pretty much kills everything else. Probably could have aged longer.

VRBT. 2007 bottling I believe. Dark brown, little head. Very nice aroma, quite fruity, cocolate as well. Flavor is rich caramel and chocolate, dark fruit and roasted barley. Not at all a bourbon bomb here. Great stuff.

22 oz. 2008. Smell of light coffee, carmalized sugar and alcohol. Good looking dark brown with a one finger head only if poured aggressively. Taste is the same as the smell but with less of the sweet and more of some smoke. Palate is a fine even richness, not over the top but very nice. Overall it is not a standout but is really a nice brew. Drank the whole 22 oz. no problem and enjoyed the last tasty sip if that says anything.

The Dan Journal #243. Tasted 10/3/08. 2007 Vintage. Filtered with a dark brown hue. Brainy beige head. Alcohol nose with hints of cocoa, toffee and raisins. Full bodied and so smooth. Good alcohol bite. Lotta malt character with a subtle coffee acidity. Sweet malty flavors with toffee and anise notes.. 2006 Vintage. Same hue and head. More pronounced alcohol. Anise and peppery notes stand out. Ages rather nicely!
