Commercial Description:
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

750 ml bottle. Pours a deep, dark chocolate in color with a small, creamy brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of vanilla, oak, smoke, espresso, and caramel. Flavors fall in line with the aroma, with just a touch of an alcoholic zing on the back of your palate. A pair of snifters of this was perfect with a fine cigar.

2007 bottle. Pours dark brown, not quite as black as I’d expect, with some light tan head that takes off its coat and stays a while, resting its big fat legs on the glass. Light bourbon, caramel, grains, cinnamon and chocolate aromas pervade. Flavors match - sweet dark malts, chocolate, caramel, tar, prune, bourbon, finishing with some coffee and alcohol. Mouthfeel is moderate with nice alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice RIS.

25.4 oz bottle, 2007. Dark brown with a frothy tan head. Nose is dark chocolate, caramel and coffee softened by oak; faint bourbon. Medium body with a tingle and an airy alcohol finish. Taste is malted milk balls, vanilla and licorice. Smooth bourbon and coffee on the backside.

[Bottle] shared by STLWill. Pours dark brown with a smallish tan head. Aroma is vanilla, oak, and bourbon, with a touch of roasted malts. Flavor is fairly thin, lots of bourbon, roasty, and a coffee-ish finish.

Pour is not unlike whiskey but with a short lived tan head and a good amount of carbonation. The wood and whiskey dominate the aroma. Flavor begins fruity and sweet. This is followed by the whiskey and wood flavors. It is full of sweet caramel. Just a bit of hops give a nice little zing. This is an outstanding beer. Nothing is overpowering and everything works well together. Well crafted.

Bottle. Pours a nice, black color with a brown head. Aroma of STRONG bourbon, molasses, light coffee. Nice mix in the flavor of vanilla/bourbon, coffee and chocolate. Normally not a fan of the bourbon barrel aged items, but this one was quite tasty.

25 oz bottle. Pours a clear dark brown, almost black, with a one finger tight bubbled beige head that fell to a wispy film. The nose is equal parts bourbon, oak, and Stout. More alcohol than most at 10%, bourbon, char, some vanilla, and a nice chocolate syrup note. The Stout base is actually pretty thin and overpowered by the bourbon on the flavor though. Roasty, vanilla extract, some woody notes, a little burnt, but not acrid. Hefty alcohol kick on the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, slightly oily, with a little clinginess on the back end. The light soft carbonation is nice. Overall pretty nice, a bit too one dimensional, but it was fairly drinkable.
