COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Quadrupel is easily one of the most rich and full bodied beers we make, so when Paul Hayden at the Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton, Missouri asked us to age some in a bourbon barrel, we were happy to oblige. The resulting ale is loaded with oak and bourbon character, as well as the rich, dried fruit character of the Quadrupel. We have created a unique taste you will only find in this extremely limited edition. We filled just one bourbon barrel and may never produce this beer again, so enjoy!

Bottle. Ruby color with thin head. Aroma is sweet, bourbon, vanilla, cherry, fruit, candy. Taste follows. Nice and malty, good amount of bourbon, vanilla, fruit. Really like the regular version of their quad, this definitely did not disappoint.

Taster at RBSG 2014 Dressel’s Pub Beer Dinner. Hazy caramel brown with no head. Aromas of bourbon, caramel, coconut. Tastes of bourbon, booze, dark fruit, caramel. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Syrupy mouthfeel. Had this side by side with the regular Quad which was slightly better than the barrel aged.

I had this right before the non-barrel aged bourbon and I gotta say the aging here really killed the original beer. It is red brown in color, pretty clear w/ no head at all. It has a bit of vanilla bourbon character in the nose and sticky sweetness in the flavor really makes for that to be the singular focus once you taste it. This is very much on the heavy side and it was a real struggle to get through the glass.

Draft on tap at RBSG Brewers Dinner at Dressels (St. Louis, MO). Pours a darker copper orange hue, decent haziness and glowing frothy beige head dies to a faint ring, minimal lacing. Nice colors in the body as we trail out to the edges. Aromas are gentle whiskey and vanillin, touches of sweetness, toast and biscuit. Caramel, dark fruit and gentle toffee. The Belgian yeast gives a bit of spiciness, dark fruit. Some touches of warmth. Initial is medium bodied, a bit thinned from the barrel with vanillin, some toast and toffee and caramel. Some gentle yeastiness. Touches of dark fruit, toffee and firmer yeasty elements. Middle is a bit fruity, spicy and spirit driven. Gentle toast and warmth, carmelized elements meet biscuit, a faint sweetness, oaky tannic elements give some dryness and firmer influence into the backend and finish. Gentle warmth, tannic with gentle dark fruit lingering. Solid, a bit warm. Nice stuff. Touches of spirit, vanilla, a bit well fermented with gentle oaky qualities that grow a bit, show some firmer warm and tannic elements but work well.

Bottle - Oak, butter, raisin and caramel. Light cloudy copper with no head. Dark sugars, raisin and oak. Smooth and light, but lacks the complexity of the monks.

Bottle at RBSG. Pours a near clear amber gold with a gray head that dissipates completely. Aroma has a good amount of barrel with some candied sugar, sweet dark grains and a decent amount of raisin. Flavor has a combination of sweet grain and raisin with barrel and toffee in the finish.

A ton of booze on the nose with a lot if vanilla and caramel. Some significant warming on the finish. I feel the barrel kind of kills the base beer. Otherwise good

Bottle from John. Thanks! A: Brown body with a cappuccino head. N: Brown butter, bourbon, candi sugar, vanilla, caramel, coconut, and shortbread. Dessert, I think. T: Sweet and delicious. Not much of the other descriptors, but not cloying in the slightest. M: Thick and sticky. Alcohol’s hidden. O: OK, I think we can all agree this isn’t a Quad. It’s more of a barleywine. And it is delicious. MOAR.

Bottle at a recent RB tasting... Poured dark brown with a thin head. Awesome dark sugary, bourbon soaked wood aroma. Nice toasted sweetness with intense barrel characters. Dark caramel and toffee with thick dark fruits too.
