3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pour deep brown with a mahogany hue and has a dense tan head. The aroma has brown sugar, bourbon, heavy toast, syrup, richness and the doppelbock style lush qualities. The body is think, rich and heavy on the palatte with sharp, yet underscored, carbonation. The taste begins with toffee, caramel, oak and bourbon. The maltiness is very toasted and seems close to roasted. The beer is also a bit on the cloying side. The finish has big bourbon, dark toffee and alcohol begin shown more than expected for an 8% beer. Could be this is a bit young for what it is, but it seems rough around the edges and displays the alcohol a bit much.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at The Tap Room, served in a snifter. Pours a hazy nut brown color with a small off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar, caramel, toast, and nuts. The flavor is much the same, with big toasty and bourbony notes, vanilla, caramel, wood, toffee, and brown sugar. Medium-full bodied, with a smooth, sweet, rich, coating mouthfeel and modest carbonation. The bourbon barrel absolutely leads the way on this one, but goes well on top of the Doppelbock. I loved it.
