COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlafly American Brown Ale starts with a classic British brown recipe crafted with caramel and chocolate malts for sweetness and color. Then we fortify it with the bold flavor and aroma of American hops.

Transfer from BA review on 6-15-13- Poured from can into a pint glass Appearance-Pours a very light brown/ deep amber color with a big and billowy two finger just off white head. The head fades quite slowly over time to leave a decent level of lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is mainly of a caramel sweetness mixed with a bit of a toasted malt aroma. Along with these smells are some light pine and earthy hop aromas producing a bit more of a hoppy smell then would have been expected for an American brown of its strength. Taste – The taste starts out with a lightly toasted malt flavor with a little bit of caramel sweetness. The sweetness fades more toward the middle of the taste giving a rather dry profile to the brew. The toasted malt flavor is next met with some hop flavors of a slightly earthy and grassy nature more toward the middle of the taste. Toward the end a very light amount of a brown sugar flavor comes to the tongue. While the brown sugar arrives, the taste is still rather dry and, in the end, with a bit more hop flavors coming to the tongue, a dry, lightly roasted, and relatively thin and crisp hop flavor is left on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the thinner side with a carbonation level that is rather average. The average carbonation level helps with keeping it crisp and refreshing, although the thinner body was not too great for the roasted malt flavors of the brew. Overall- It is on the more refreshing side and does fit into the session style that it is going for, but really a brown ale is not the best to be looking for a session with as I think it is tough to support any real toasted flavors with such a weak body. Not a go to for me.

On tap at the STL airport. Pours a clear amber brown with a tan head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a good amount of bread and dark grain with hints of chocolate and roast. Flavor has a light roast with dark grain, a hint of grass and dark bread.

On tap @ Schlafly Tap Room, Lambert Airport edition. Chestnut colored pour with a khaki head. Plenty of toasted grain and some roast. Nice bit of cocoa powder in there. Kind of floral, some bread, and a bit of earth. Flavor has a moderate bitterness to it. Only a touch of coffee, but good chocolate and roasted malt. Sweet toasted malt and a bit of molasses. Slight floral hop bite and a bitter, earthy finish.

Pint at StL airport. Dark amberbrown with an uneven head. Not a big aroma but there is chocolate, figs, and some earth. The flvor begins with that and with a bit of warming a nice bitter citrus hop profile emerges. Some astringency is noted. A nice beer is rather filling.

@ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear amber brown with a 4" head that takes its time dropping to a thick cover, waves of lace. Taste is pure simple malt that rolls through the palate without adding anything. Light bittering arrives just in time to balance at the finish. Uncomplicated, but decent enough as a session beer.

Thin tan head thats short lived with little lacing. Clear, brown in color. Nose of slight caramel malts and minerals. Body is lightly medium with a soft carbonation. Dry malts, earth and slight hop undertones of pine and caramel, little nutty. Dry, quick finish that toasts up as it warms. Been bangin a few of these lately, not sure why either. Decent little quaff. Can from statelinliquors.

Tasted on 12/29/13 from a 12oz can purchased at Craft Brewed. Pours clear dark auburn with an average white head that slowly recedes to average lace. The nose is caramel, vanilla, and chocolate malt with pine resin and grassy hops. The flavor is almost the same, with the resin hops really shining through, along with the chocolate and vanilla malt taking more of a back seat, and even less caramel. The body is light with lively carbonation and a medium hoppy and bitter chocolate finish.

Way too bitter, I can’t even get any malty goodness through the overly bitter beer taste.

Pours a clear dark amber with a full antique lace head. Toasted malt aroma. Taste is sweet caramel malt, buttery, nutty with a slight vegetal character (celery). Hop bitterness, though not over the top, is pronounced. Good, but I prefer an English brown.
