COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sessions Black Lager is a traditional German Schwarzbier with a refreshingly light body. The dark chocolate malts contribute color and hints of roasted coffee balanced by the delicate aroma of German Noble hops. Translated from German, Schwarzbier means black beer. Schwarzbier originated in the 16th Century in southeastern Germany where it is still brewed today. The style enjoyed a heyday in St. Louis in the late 1800s, but large scale production of dark lagers failed to resurface after Prohibition. In 2007, the beer community of St. Louis honored St. Louis Dark Lager as the official beer of the inaugural St. Louis Brewers Heritage Festival, an annual tasting event that celebrates the many breweries thriving in St. Louis today.

Can from Total Wine. Pours cola brown with a small tan head that dissipates rather quickly The aroma has some light roasted malt, a tiny bit of a chocolate or espresso in the distance. The taste is a bit of roasted malt, a bit of a dark chocolate, pretty light and refreshing. Fairly solid offering.

Deep dark brown body with a cloudy, muddy glow at the bottom. Nice dense two centimetre tall light brown coloured head, as well. Aroma of rich nutty and earthy malt with a hint of brown sugar, cardboard and toffee also noticeable, but a fairly mild scent throughout. Light-bodied; Very mild earthy and nutty flavour with some toffee, caramel, hazelnuts, peanuts and a splash of milk at the end. Aftertaste shows a very light malt note and some nutty sweetness, and thatís it - very subdued and not showing much at all, especially complexity. Overall, a decent beer that is very easy to drink, but doesnít show much in the way of flavours or style - itís just a very mild schwartz with not enough complexity or depth. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Clarendon), Virginia on 09-March-2014 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 29-May-2014.

This was a great beer and I wish I could have had more, pours black with some light coming through the edges. Smells really good, very sweet with some chocolate and coffee, taste is great loads of chocolate/coffee/caramel but very light, could drink a whole 6er

Can with a stupid tab that broke off. Light roasty chocolate malt aroma. Clear deep mahogany with a large creamy beige head. Light chalky cocoa, slightly roasty malt, and slightly tannic flavor. Light body, average carbonation, dry finish.

Pours a deep amber to brown, if not quite black, with a fair khaki head that settles to a thick ring and leaves some nice hanging, fluffy lace. Nose involves some clean lager yeast, some dark fruit, raisin and prune, some toast. Some sweet, fair bitter, a bit tart. Medium-light body, pretty active, a bit slippery, with a lengthy fruity and toasty bitter finish. Pretty tasty, definitely sessionable, nice character.
