3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Reddish black, big foamy head. Smells like chocolate and coffee, with a hint of stone or some vaguely metallic aroma. Taste is a nice mix of coffee, chocolate and vanilla. Not bad.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. can. Pours reddish-brown with a few lasting bubbles. Aroma is chocolate, dark cherry and whole grain toast. Flavors of date, toasted nut bread, bittersweet chocolate, a light dose of lactic acid, and some dry grass on the finish. Light-medium body is sweet and lightly sticky but has enough acidic astringency to finish in balance. I didnít like the carbonation flare-ups in the mouth, but itís probably needed if anyone is to really session this one. Decent flavor but this is not really a "can session" beer for me.

This is very good. So smooth, yet full of malty goodness. Been a while since I had a good black lager & this delivered.

Take a better than average lager and add some roasty goodness. Whatís not to like? As usual, Schlafly does it better than most.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
First schwarz ever at the 2013 OBF event in Joplin, and this was the beer of the night for both me and my attending person! We sampled it THREE TIMES it was so good. Creamy malt, delicious mouthfeel, flavorful, just the right amount of bitterness - DELISH and SUPER well-balanced. Gonna look for some sixers!

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The aroma of this beer is a strong blend of roasted and caramel malts, and the appearance is a really clear dark brown color with a large off-white head that fades fairly quickly to a ring. The taste is mildly umami, slightly sweet, and slightly sour, which is a blend that isnít bad to sip; furthermore, the palate fuses a medium body, soft carbonation, slick texture, and a long malty finish.
