Schlafly IPA is a session IPA, a smooth golden ale packed with the bold flavor and aroma of American hops. We crafted it in the spirit of the low gravity IPAs common in the UK where the style stands for hoppy, not heavy.

12 oz can into a pint glass. A: Pours a golden amber color with good clarity. The head poured is ragged and downright ugly - it has a soapy-looking texture and fades away pathetically. Sheís not a looker, thatís for damn sure. S: Now this is better. The hops win out here, providing notes of grapefruit, pine, lemongrass, and even some tropical fruit touches. Maltiness doesnít really come through, but I donít care about that. T: A combination of lemongrass and pine needles open things up, changing to a slightly tropical tone in the middle. There isnít much of a finish due to the dryness. All the carbonation creates an illusion of bitterness on the palate, but when given the chance to calm down, it reveals a nice flavor-to-bitterness ratio, with even a negligible hint of flavor layering. M: Dry, dry, dry. It manages to avoid a watery pratfall, though, because of the lingering resin qualities. On the other hand, itís ridiculously fizzy - which makes the brew seem more bitter than it is, among other things. O: It doesnít make me hard the way Lagunitas DayTime did, but thatís because Centennial is pretty low down on my list of preferred hops. Still a successful low-alcohol hop vessel, though.

Can at Bigeloís. This was less than the bold flavor as described above but was nice. I tasted floral and grass with light malts. There was not a lot going on but it was pleasant.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2013 Clear, gold pour with a soapy, white head. The aroma has earthy hops with just a hint of pine. It has a light, thin body with average carbonation. The taste is mildly bitter with a somewhat bland finish.

Faint hop aroma with a clear golden amber color and a white head. Taste is slightly malty with a minimal hop finish. Overall just an OK brew. Iíd call this a pale ale not an IPA. If you are looking for a IPA with a lower alcohol content, go for the Lagunitas Day Time IPA

Aroma of cereal and floral/grassy hops. Appearance is tinted gold with slight white head. Flavor matches the nose; the palate is medium, chewy and soft. I expected a little more hop presence here.

Can into a fluted glass. Pours a clean, clear gold with a slight white head. No real lacing. Lightly fruity aroma with some floral hoppiness and grain. Taste is malty but with a big floral hop character with a good bitter bite. Nothing too special, but I can see this being a great summertime session beer.

Nice hoppy finish, but not cloying or too bitter. Actually this a great session beer as the label seems to assert. Iíve had a few, so this review is a bit lacking. Very clean tasting with a delicious citrus note. This is one of maybe 3 Schlafly beers that Iíve enjoyed. So nice.

Sampled at TWCP Beer Fest 2013. It poured an amber color with a white head. The aroma was of citrus and floral hops. The taste was of citrus hops and mildly toasted malts. Very well done.

Pour is a clear orange with a average white head. Aroma is a pleasant hop. Flavor is about the same. Decently hopped w/o being heavy. Alow alcohol but still a nice hoppy flavor.

Can. Pours dark orange with a medium white head. Aroma of moderate floral/citrus hops with caramel undertones. Moderately sweet caramel backbone with floral and fruity hops. Similar finish with some citrus hop notes. Well balanced with a moderately bitter finish. Close to an average IPA but highly drinkable.
