3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rated on 3-03-2010 (Bottle on 11 12 2009 per label) When poured, this beer has a medium sized fizzy off-white head that quickly dissipates, transparent orange body, slow rising carbonation, and no lacing. The Aroma is malty, sweet, orange peel, and clove. The Taste is sweet, caramel, orange peel, and clove. The Palate is very smooth and this beer is light-medium bodied. Overall, this beer is very quaffable, has an enjoyable flavor, worth trying, and a beer I recommend and would drink again.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
2014.01.21 - Schlafly Christmas Ale - 12oz bottle in pint glass. 2012 vintage - bottled 11/21/2012
Aroma: smells of dark spices, generic I know but that’s about all I get. An aroma I can’t quite identify, maybe nutmeg as others are noting.
Appearance: Pours around 12 on SRM scale. Orange tan, similar to Newcastle Brown for example. Still a decent amount of carbonation, foamy, dissipates to a white ring.
Taste: not very complex, basically a mild ale with possibly mild bitterness, a spicy cinnamon is prominent and obvious without being too much.
Palate/Mouthfeel: light overall, smooth, spicy powdery aftertaste.
Overall: Like their pumpkin ale, it is tasty and enjoyable. A solid brew without being great. Nowhere near as good as some Belgian holiday brews and so forth, but a solid specialty ale.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours a clear dark ruby body with a small fizzy off-white head that faded pretty quickly. The nose is a full on Christmas spice assault, heavy nutmeg and cinnamon for the most part. Orange peel, clove, and a light pine tree note as well. The flavor is super spicy as well with a base maltiness that’s slightly sweet and toasty with a bit of graininess. The dominant spice in the flavor is a tie between cinnamon and clove. Finishes with a spicy and slightly sweet lingering maltiness. No real indication that this is in the 8% ABV range. Medium bodied with a slight stickiness, fizzy moderate carbonation. Can’t get into this one too much, it’s just a little too heavy on the spicing for my tastes.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is quite pleasant, but this brewery seems to give me that impression all the time. Pours amber darker and deeper in the middle and golden on the outside with a beige head. The aroma brings sweet cloves balanced well maybe some honey notes after. Flavor starts out with nice Christmas spice and sweetness, cloves and almost hints of ginger, but the sweetness drops and brings and the spices remain settling pleasantly o the palate with an amber malty character.

1/7/2014. On tap. Dark amber color with an off-white head. Spicy aromas with malt, caramel and hops. Flavors are mostly spice, but very nice for this time of year. Bitter hops on the finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
2012 edition moderated the spices to balance. Deep golden-orange with lasting head. Good drinkability, with carbonation off a bit. Lacy.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle into pint glass, clear rich ruby-copper color with light tan head. Aroma of Christmas spices (clove, cinnamon, nutmeg) and caramel malt. Taste seems richer then the aroma adding notes of toffee, orange peel and a nice overall fruitiness (citrus, berries). Medium body, low carbonation, soft, oily with lingering roast/spice finish. Nice rich yet balanced Christmas beer.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle->small tumbler. Cloudy medium brown with offwhite head. Tons of Christmas spices overpowering the malt and grasses underneath. A mess.
