Nov 06 bottling. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium amber. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (cookie, caramel), with notes of allspice/cinnamon, light note of metal shavings. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic, slightly metallic. Bit of a metallic twang to this one, but it’s minor. Not bad, but not a lot of uniqueness or enticement. Spice driven without a whole lot underneath.

2006 Bottle: Lets see how the spice additions have held up in this one. Pours a clear amber with a thick, inch high head. The nose is spicy interesting, almost like the old red cinnamon candy that you’d get at Halloween. The spicy cinnamon carries though to the body, where notes of clove, rindy orange, and bready malts join the party. The spices are nice here, but a more hefty malt middle would definitely be welcome. This would be nice around the fire though.

2007 bottle. Pours a near opaque burnt orange with soapy sudsy off-white head. Nutmeg, clove, some vegetal in the aroma. Pumpkin in the flavor. Not too bad, but nothing special

12oz bottle, pours out orange/red color with off white head that disappears quickly. you can smell the cinnamon quickly at first and some other spicey notes. the flavor when cole is of cinnamon but as the beer warms the over powering flavor of clove takes over...for me it was way to much not that i dont like clove but a mouthfeel of oily clove is not what i would expect. this does a somewhat of a creamy texture to it...overall not bad but one was enough for me.

Clear copper color with little head and lacing. Smell clove and caramel malt in aroma with hints of orange peel. Taste the clove with some ginger and that orange peel. Malt backbone provides sweetness. Slight astringency mid palate with spicy, dry finish. Mouthfeel is a bit thin with moderate carbonation. Much like their pumpkin ale but with orange instead of pumpkin. Spicing isn't overdone which is nice, making it more pleasant and drinkable. Alcohol is hidden well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear amber body with orange highlights. A well retained, thin, wispy white head leaves behind only minimal lacing. Ridiculously unbalanced aroma. This trait alone neccesitates a need to take this recipe back to the theoretical drawing board. Torturous amounts of cloves belie a pithy orange and soapy ester nose laden with toasted malts and unnecessary sugar and spice levels. All in all, a boring and unpleasant aroma, substandard by any stretch or grading curve. Flavor is at first much easier to tkae. Clove isn’t so dominant. Toasty malt seems very pleasant now and in good quantity. The realization that this has yet to reach a suitable temperature to really dissect the flavor leads me to wait; a mistake. Now the flavor is back at it again, with spicing that is so over-the-top I decide not to finish the glass. Finishes spicy and lingering, with a stinging sensation left behind, no doubt, by all the clove. My breath is stinky now as well. Oh well, better luck next year. Not a catastophic failure, but I don’t ever want to revisit this.

Pours a redder coppery brown with a thin white film of a head. The nose is sweet with lots of ginger. Toasty, malty, with a bit of orange peel and a bit more cloves. Something resembling burnt socks, slightly. The mouthfeel is creamy, full and smooth. The flavor is a lot like the nose, only those socks come through more, and they are toasted, not burned. The flavors are still very ginger dominated. A bit of spice in other directions, though more subtle. Lingering sweetness. The 8% is well enough hidden.
