I really enjoyed this beer. Found it on my recent trip to Corral Liquors in Granite City, IL. A hint of spice with a smooth middle and nice finish. I tried it because I hadn’t rated a seasonal Schlafly before. Would stock this if I lived closer.

THOUGHTS: Rather sweet and quite orangey. Very Christmasy, but in a non-traditional Christmas beer way. Very nice. Way better than I was expecting. Hid alcohol very well. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light to medium amber with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma had heavy toasted malt, caramel, honey and orange; slightly herbal and spicy hops; clove; slight pepper and Chrismtasiness. It sort of tasted like orange marmalade on toast with a little spice. The initial flavor was moderate to heavily sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was moderate to heavily sweet, lightly acidic and slightly bitter with an average duration. There was orange, caramel and toasted malt, more orange, clove and spice, maybe a little pepper, slightly herbal hops and genuine Christmasiness. The slightly more than medium body was a little syrupy and slightly sticky on the lips and then rather dry with fizzy carbonation and a dry and ever so sightly alcoholic finish.

This beer smells a lot like this same brewery’s pumpkin ale due to the cinnamon and nutmeg but adds something new due to the dough yeast, and the appearance is a clear auburn color with a small off-white head that fades quickly. The taste is really indulgent as a result of the high spice level, slight sourness, slight sweetness, and a touch of umami, and the palate complements it nicely with the oily texture, medium body, soft carbonation, and a long finish that is an extension of the taste.

I had this at my sisters house. Pours amber with a white head. Taste sweet, cinnamon, nutmeg. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark amber color with a off-white head and some lacing. Aroma of fruit, nutmeg, bit of cinnamon, caramel and spice. Taste of of fruit, orange, caramel sweetness, cinnamon, nutmeg and spice. mild bitterness and finish that is quite dry with a bit of lingering spices. Medium body, rich texture and well balanced. No trace of the 8% ABV, just a subtle warming feeling. Good beer that goes well with the Christmas season.

This is quite pleasant, but this brewery seems to give me that impression all the time. Pours amber darker and deeper in the middle and golden on the outside with a beige head. The aroma brings sweet cloves balanced well maybe some honey notes after. Flavor starts out with nice Christmas spice and sweetness, cloves and almost hints of ginger, but the sweetness drops and brings and the spices remain settling pleasantly o the palate with an amber malty character.

Bottle (Oct. 30, 2007 on label). Pour is a slightly opaque orange with a dense, but small head. Aromas are of orange peels, spices and bread dough/yeast. I found this a delightful winter brew with a nice and full spicing that sits over a body of caramel malts with a touch of a hops finish. Sometimes there is a bit of a medicinal/herbal flavor that isn’t quite right, but I’m wondering if they tinkered with the recipe a bit since the 2006 batch. I really liked this one... it will rank as one of my favorite Christmase brews.

Bottle from strykzone. Thanks Dave. Pours a hazy red amber with a thick off-white head. Nose has some pleasant spice--nothing too over the top. I also get a mild citrus tartness perhaps from the orange peel. Flavor is equally pleasant, nice balance between spices, hops, and orange peel. I do not find any of the aromas or flavors in this beer overpowering at all. Nice, spiey, slightly dry finish with a clean mouthfeel. Alcohol well hidden throughout. Impressive.

In the bottle thanks to hurrisnow. Reddish amber with a fast dying white head. Strong orange and clove aroma. I really like this. It has the perfect malt body that does not mask the spices used. This really has as much of a spice profile as the 2008 Anchor OSA. Chunks of things are in the bottom of the bottle. Really outstanding.
