3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
3-22-2014 Deep black in color with a low head and very clean. Nose has a light nuttiness too it with some light chocolate, mild raisin and dark fruit sweetness. Flavor is strong of malt, strong raisin, light coca nib chocolate late and a light nutty finish. Body is thick, low amount of carbonation and a slightly sticky feeling to it. OVerall a good brew but strong sweetness from the raisin.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled on tap at the 2012 Schlafly Hop In The City festival. It poured a clear, medium reddish-brown color with lasting beige foam and some lace. 100% true-to-style Doppelbock aromas and flavors. Malty, great marshmallowy pils sweetness, balanced by tangy, peppery noble hops. Well-balanced and very drinkable despite the higher alcohol. Medium body and carbonation, faint but pleasant caramelly aftertaste. Nicely done.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Ruby-brown and clear with a nice head and good lacing. Powerfully and overwhelmingly malty!! Smells great! Very tasty too, with a blast of sweet, toasty, extra-smooth caramel malts, plus light fruits and a touch of light brown sugar. Hops were not a major factor. Body was good but a bit light for the style, but incredibly drinkable and high on deliciousness! Surely try this one if you’re at the taproom.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at bottleworks. Malt, malt, malt......Clear mahogany with no head -- is that from the alcohol or a mistake? Chewy yeast and malt lingers on the palate with slight spice and a dry finish. very nice.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the Bottleworks after Cranksgiving. A dark brown opaque pour with a small beige head. A rich malt nosethat also has a bit of fig. The flavor is also chock full of malt. Some light anise, muskiness, applesauce, nuts, and molasses. It was served too cold and I have no doubt more complexity would have emerged. It seems to be almost hop free.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Draft at the bottleworks. Pours a clear dark brown with minimal head. Aroma of caramel, roasted nuts and a little toffee. Medium bitter taste with some nice caramel notes. Medium bodied with a thick texture. Soft carbonation and a long finish. Overall, I love this beer...so much that I brought a growler back with me so I can drink it again when I get home.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft sample at Hop in the City 2010. Pours a mostly clear mahogany color with a small beige head. Aroma of toasted malts, toffee, wood, earthy hops, and overripe fruits. Flavor follows suit closely, with the toasty, malty notes dominating. Medium-bodied, with mellow carbonation and a toasty mouthfeel. Very nice doppelbock.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2/12/2010: Very good beer. Tap to pint glass. Pours dark amber with medium white head that lasts a while with some lacing that was consistent. Smells of malty bread, coffee and some alcohol. Taste is coffee and toast that is just downright good. Body is smooth and full and finish is sweet and malty. I am really glad I got to try this and it is worth a trip to St. Louis. Cheers to the Schlafly folks on this one.
