COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
2004 Hops in the City festival beer. Fruity, spicy, aromas and flavors contribute to the complexity of this Belgian ale. Medium body and effervescence contribute to a light, dry impression, despite its substantial strength and sweet, smooth finish.

Sampled at the Funky 8 - Brooklyn, NYC. Big and sweet, faintly tangy. Dark fruits, raisins, caramel, bread. Some booze. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with sugary malts and further dark, rich and ripe fruits. Decent.

750 bottle from Beer Run. Pours a hazy amber color with a thin frothy white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of raisin, caramel, toast and almost some woody notes. The taste is bread, caramel, vanilla, spice, dry fruits. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Solid.

750ml bottle served into a Tripel Karmaliet tulip. A - Pours a hazy golden orange with a quickly vanishing white head. Very little specks of lacing. S - Lots of fruit esters and bread. Tart apples, peaches, lychee, pineapple, candied lemon citrus, pears, spicy Belgian yeast, light cereal grains. Hints of sourness and slight mustiness. T - Very sweet and fruity. Tropical fruit galore, pineapple, papaya, guava, stone fruits, sour apples, bananas, all sweet but tart as well. Spicy Belgian yeast is layered with in as well as some M - Medium wet body but quickly dries out. Lots going on here. Sweet fruit, spicy, malty, and tart. Interesting for sure. This kinda reminds me of a a Tripel. Serving type: bottle 11-17-2012

Appearance: cloudy white orange. Not much head. Interesting aroma though of lemon zest, tropical fruit, and yeast. Spicy, bready, lemony flavors. Somewhat thin-bodied for the style. Has more bitterness than I expected. Do not find it overly sweet at all, as some have said. A decent Belgian strong.

This is a good example of why its good to keep rating styles you are usually leery of. I am not usually a fan of big Belgian inspired beers, because they I tend to find them to be big, boozy, overly sweet messes. So, that being said, I really enjoyed this. Nicely sweet, but not too much, lots of yeasty character without being too boozy, and subtle, tart citrus. I liked it...

Nice aroma of sweet fruit and some malt. The flavor is sweet fruit as well with a bit of hops towards the back of the swallow. About average for the style which is better than most American versions.

750 ml bottle into snifter. Purchased from The Party Source, Bellevue, KY. Bottled on 12/15/11. Damn, really?? I bought this in December 2012. The aroma was fruity Belgian yeast, sugar and pale malts. Cloudy gold with tons of tiny particles of yeast floating around the glass. Flavor is Belgian yeast, lots of fruity notes. (Mostly apricot) some candy sugar notes and a slight alcohol touch in the finish. Very fruity with lots of yeast. Medium body with a soft carbonation. Overall sweet and fruity but pretty good and holds true to the style.

750ml bottle. Pours a golden orange color with white head. Belgian yeast and dark malt flavors. Malty, yeasty, slight barnyard flavors. A servicable strong belgian.
