COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A Schlafly Ale for Culinaria. Holiday Ale is a bottle-conditioned, English-style "Old Ale" brewed at The Schlafly Tap Room on 21st Street for Culinaria, a Schnucks market. This ale is a collaborative effort by the Brewers of Schlafly Beer and our friends at Schnucks to celebrate the ongoing revival in the City of St. Louis. The Schlafly Tap Room opened in 1991 and was one of the first efforts of the modern revival. Culinaria, opened in 2009 on 9th Street, brings a fine food and beverage market back to Downtown St. Louis. Our Holiday Ale is a rich, amber-colored ale that will pair well with meats, cheeses and desserts that accompany the Holidays. Celebrate the Season in St. Louis and best wishes from your neighbors as Schlafly and Culineria.

750 ml bottle from Culinaria. Pours a cloudy reddish color with a big beige head. Aroma of mixed winter spices, sweet malts, caramel, toast, berry fruits, and a little alcohol. Flavor of malt, cinammon, nutmeg, berries, raisins, fig, pine hops, honey, bread, and warming alcohol. Medium bodied and dry, with a bready mouthfeel. Just a hint of roast on the alcoholic finish. Interesting beer, I might have to grab another and let it sit for a while.

A very attractive pour. Amber brown with plenty of visible carbonation. A big tan head has strong retention that tries my patience. Aroma is fruit, bread, caramel, and light spices. Alcohol is prominent in the flavor. Chocolate, fruit, red hot candies, soft spices. Licking my lips brings malt flavors. The chocolate stayed throughout and described the finish. Lots of subtleties here. A hint of hop late. Warming throughout. Very enjoyable.

750 bought at Bottleworks. Spicy and malty. Sweetness is just right. Amber color with some very nice caramel tones. This is very good.

Pours dark tawny copper with a dense tan head. The aroma has lots of toffee / caramel, toasted malt and nuttiness. Medium / full body that is a bit crisp and and has sharp fizzy carbonation. The flavor starts with very toasted malt that is a bit on the musty side and there are hints of anise and dry spices along with warming alcohol that’s a bit more prevalent than I’d like. The finish has dry caramel, powder, basement must malt and warming abv. Good beer.

From a 750ml capped bottle courtesy of Strykzone, this poured a hazy amber to orange color with a nice tan head and decent lacing rings. The nose is of caramel malts with aromas of ripe fruits. The body is medium and the mouthfeel is smooth but also lively. The flavor is complex with fruits nuances of all kind…strawberry, melon, some chocolate, and some subtle spices. The finish has a citrus bitterness. This is a difficult beer to describe, but a very easy one to drink. The sad part about getting a beer like this in a trade is that when it is gone, it is gone. A real winner.

Pour is a dark brown with a big tan head. Aroma is brown sugar and molasses with a bit sour apple and toffee. That was pretty good. Flavor is again a little bit of apple and toffee with some alcohol. Leaves a little chocolate/cherry on the tounge after the swallow. A damn fine beer but once its gone its gone.
