(Draught@HBF2009) Very dark cola brown with a small, beige head. Roasty-malty aroma with licorice hints and some stinginess. Glue-perfumy, roasty and quite licoricey flavor with moderate bitterness and some black coffee. Medium to full body with soft carbonation. Hard to say if this is a bit unclean, or just interesting. In either way, quite enjoyable.

This dark brown ale poured with a pock-marked tan head and a sweet chocolate aroma. There is a rich chocolate and caramel malt flavor with some nice bourbon warming at the finish.

Nov 22, 2008 - 2008 version- Arrived at the table very black with small thin bubbles around the edge. Aroma is a strong alcohol scent, raisins and a bunch of roasted scents abound. The flavor is very sweet , some raisin flavors, slight chocolate with lots of dark roasted malt . Carbonation is very low and makes the beer feel nice and heavy in your mouth. Overall, very good, fresh flavored beer for a nice cold night in a chair.

Dark brow pour. Heavy vanilla and bourbon aroma with a like taste. Palate is a little thin.

Deep brown body is not quite opaque. Beige head leaves nice chains of lacing. Aroma is mostly vanilla and bourbon. Some roasted notes are subtle. Body is a bit thin for style. Taste mirrors the aroma, with dark roasty notes playing second fiddle to the vanilla and bourbon. Some nice chocolate tones add complexity. Mildly disappointing. With so many big stouts out there this one just doesn’t excel.

Dark brown body with a thin tan head. Slight dark fruit taste followed by dry, bitter coffee finish. Little alcohol present. This could be dangerous.

Tasted 1/19/08 at the bitter cold Cabin Fever. Pitch opaque brown with tan head. Toasty malty notes with cocoa and chocolate aroams. Full bodied and dry. Strong and bitter. Big malty flavors. Notes of dark chocolate and mild toffee. Coffee acidity and mild hops. I actually prefer this to the Barrel Aged version. Well crafted!
