This is a serious imperial and one of the better ones i’ve had. Starts very sweet with a touch of rum raisin and then finish with a burst of bitter chocolate. Pretty complex. Make an effort to find this one people!
Whoa. This is a serious Imperial Stout. I was drinking a Sam Smith’s ImpS the night before the fest and Schlafly’s was clearly the better of the two. Huge chocolate, espresso, brandy, licorice, rum raisin flavors that envelop your taste buds. This will be purchased in large quantities by me from the brewery come winter. Very sweet malty aroma, the brewery must have smelled heavenly the day this one was brewed. Very dark, okay black, small head. Flavor is very sweet, little fruiter than I'd expected. Alot of the mocha/chocolate flavor are prevailent, little of the roast flavor. Medium to light bodied. Sweet finish, excellent brew. MarkR (68), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

A dense, creamy tan head covers what appears to be deep black, but is really an extremely dark reddish brown. Great lacing. Aroma is exceptionally malty, with lots of coffee and roasted grain, chocolate, licorice, toffee, cream, vanilla, earth, and smoke. The flavor carries on the malt barrage, with a firm black malt note leading the way and bringing an acidic, bitter bite. Midway, the rest of the flavors appear, with licorice and milk chocolate standing out the most. Hops are present, but they come across mainly in the form of green, leafy flavor, as so much of the bitterness comes from the dark grains. Finishes burnt and charred, with a blanket of smoke and seared caramel. Alcohol is hidden quite well, as it doesn’t feel and drink like 8.9% Body is a bit light compared to other Imperials, but that only improves it’s drinkability. Overall, a damn fine Imperial stout that’s brewed only 15 miles from my doorstep. God bless Schlafly/The St. Louis Brewery! verymerrymonk (257), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

It has notes of chocolate, roasted malts and hops in the aroma. The flavor is full of malts, coffee and sweet chocolate with a slight hop presence and a bit of smoke. Enjoyable. marcus (1918), Sacramento, California, USA

Roasty-malty aroma with licorice hints and some stinginess. Glue-perfumy, roasty and quite licoricey flavor with moderate bitterness and some black coffee. Medium to full body with soft carbonation. Hard to say if this is a bit unclean, or just interesting. In either way, quite enjoyable.
