Cask ale from hand puller at schlafly tap room pours dense cloudy medium brown with creamy foamy light beige head. Rich surprising aroma of citrusy hops with a light roasted grain, lightly floral hop aroma as well. The taste does not quite live up to the delicious aroma but follows close with the full unfiltered grain of the cask and a light touch of herbal bitter with dried leaves. There is a nice balancing bitterness and balancing bright floral and miniscule citrus flavor, complete beer well produced. Light palate a bit watery in the finish but that keeps it going down easy, solid effort.

On cask at the taproom, reviewed second time around!
For a cask ale, this one looked great, with plenty of head and lots of lacing.
There’s no shortage in the smell or taste of delicious, pungent hops, lemony citrus, and lightly roasted malts. It’s the very definition of delicious, right up there with their APA and AIPA on cask, downright fantastic.
The body was rich and smooth, great feel; a wonderful cask ale served absolutely perfectly.
Overall it’s definitely A material beer on cask. Highly recommended in any serving type.

Tasted on-tap 9/17/2011 at the Hop in the City Festival in a clean half-pint taster glass. This tasted like a brown American-style IPA, which I get from Schlafly’s written description, but I didn’t expect so much Cascade hops from the name "India Brown Ale." It’s a semantics argument, but "American Brown Ale" would be a more appropriate title. I can appreciate an American brew-pub hybrid once I know what I’m tasting. All in all, this is a good, easy-drinking beer.

tap at Itap in Soulard-pours deep brown with a small eggshell head-nose is earthy some cookie hops and pine. a lite char note as well. flavors are much more char than hops-lite earthy notes and some ashy flavors. ok but not great. the finish goes really ashy which takes away from the overall enjoyment of this beer. however, its pretty unique and i have never had a brown ale like this.

tap at brewery. Pours a deep brown / ruby red color with tiny off white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is nutty, slightly roasty, creamy, with a fair amount of citrusy hops (centennial or amarillo if I had to guess) . Flavor is malty, slight caramel notes, full of a fair amount of citrusy hops. Finish is slightly bitter, with an edgy metallic hop note that is not entirely pleasant. This is decent, but not overwhelming.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is pine hops and lots of them. Flavor starts out with a decent amount of hops then follows a nice chocolate malt to round things out. Very different but it works.

Draft at the Tap Room. Pours a cloudy brown color with an inch-thick, resilient beige head. Aroma is hop-forward, with a floral and orange peel quality, along with pine, caramel malts, and toasted brown sugar. Flavor of pine resin, leafy, floral hops, caramel malts, toasted brown sugar, tea, and a little earthiness. Light-medium bodied, with fairly high carbonation and a leafy mouthfeel. Some bitterness on the finish. Definitely leans more dramatically toward the ’India’ than the ’Brown’.

Draft at taproom location (Released 7/30/10). Brown in the glass with a creamy off-white head that settled to a ring and left thick lace. Huge pine aroma. The flavor found pine with backing of chocolate and nut. Medium body, creamy texture, and medium bitterness.

On tap at the tap room in St. Louis. Pours a deep brown body with a finger-width, very creamy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is very hoppy. Lots of florals and piney citrus resins. Sweet caramels balance nicely with a hint of toasted nuts. Flavor is similar, but not as bright and fresh as the aroma. Plenty of piney citrus and floral hops with a sweet caramel malt balance. Just a hint of toasted nuts before a light chocolate comes in. Finishes with a light resin and nice sweetness before drying with a moderate, piney bitterness. Lengthy aftertaste following a light to medium body and soft carbonation. Overall, a cool beer. Has some nice brown ale characteristics with plenty of American hops. Solid hybrid.
