3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Black, no head. Really faint aroma - some coffee, I guess. Taste is coffee, some burnt toast and a dry finish. As it warmed, I started to get some buttery notes, and not in a good way.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A dark brown pour with an almost yellow head. A light malty aroma with a hint of sour to it. A flavor of slightly sweet malt with a medium bitter finish. A very thin palate an a bit fizzy for me. Just a little bland for me and fizzy. Not terrible but just short.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Chocolate and roast nose with faint nuts and a slightly syrupy fruitiness. Malty but with a nice dusting of hops. Coke-colored pour with a creamy, richly tanned head. Taste is carbonated, dark, and lightly bitter, aforementioned fruit with light mocha and nuts, pleasant roast with a little dust. Smooth, creamy lightish medium body, still very quaffable. Malt-heavy with lactose and even a little Yoo-hoo. A little too bittersweet to really be called a dry stout, but close enough for jazz. Alcohol is absolutely no detectable - I made a mistake by drinking 8% so quickly. A nice surprise, though.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a nice two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, raisins, pit fruits, nuts, prunes, and quite a bit of anise. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavour with a lot of nuts and earth, some light coffee and a touch of anise and licorice. Aftertaste shows a bit of peat and some toffee, with a faint milkiness and a good solid complex malty backbone. Overall, a nice rich and full-bodied beer with a complex finish that shows almost like a baltic porter, but a very welcome beer - especially in winter! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in McLean, Virginia on 07-February-2013 for US$2.49 sampled at home in Washington on 08-March-2013.

Bottle: The aroma has lots of chocolate with some roasted malt and a hint of licorice. It pours a dark brown with orange hilights along the outer edges of the glass with a small beige head that fades quickly. Flavor starts with moderate chocolate. The finish has moderate black licorice flavors with some light roasted coffee and a hint of alcohol. The mouthfeel is medium bodied but a tad fizzy for an Imperial Stout.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a smallish, frothy, off-white head.
Smell: Roasted barley nose with notes of chocolate, cold coffee, and prune liqueur.
Taste: Dark malts tasting of melted dark chocolate and roasty coffee, though not too much roast. Drizzle of thick molasses, a few sprigs of licorice. Lightly fruity. Very slight, passing hop bitterness. Just a little sour near the end. Earthy, chocolatey finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Slight creaminess to the mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Not bad, not bad at all. For me, it’d be a lovely every day kind of stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle, bottled 1/03/13. Pours dark brown, with a 1-finger thick brown head. Kind of a hoppy nose, with toasty and chocolate malt, and a sort of metallic smell. Light, but decent lace. Good big predominantly bitter taste. Bittering hops are noticeable in the flavor, but there’s little to no American-style piney / resiny flavor here, barely any earthy hop, even. As far as I can tell, mostly just bittering hops, and it works well here. Nice toasty, lightly roasty malt, light dark chocolate, just a bit of coffee flavors here. Bigger body, with good chewier texture. Light, crisp carbonation. Finish is more on the dry side overall. Impressive stuff. Pretty faithful take, flavor-wise, on an irish dry stout, despite the high ABV. This works.
