My first sip of this ended in me smiling from ear to ear...with the exception of the year round staple oatmeal stout, I really dig all schlafly stouts, but this may be the best of them. Very roasty and big yet drinkable. I look forward to drinking this again next year.

The aroma is quite malty, I think. The appearance is very dark. The flavor is sweet, fairly well balanced, and yet intriguingly complex. It is not entirely straightforward and it continues to reveal itself in its aftertaste. The first taste is a pleasant surprise. The palate, though complex, does not seem entirely balanced, and slightly stilted, but on the whole this is a really quality beer.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized dark brown colored bubbles that were and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque black colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The aroma was chocolate and dark malt. The thick mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish. The thick flavor contained notes of roasted malt toasted malt dark malt and hops. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

Aroma of chocolate/coffee. Pours black with a nice tan head. Tastes like chocolate and coffee with a little bitterness. Nice.

Bottle - nice dark pour with a medium chocolate head. Doesnít seem hardly fair to rate this beer after just having a Founderís Imperial Stout but it was almost as good. Has a roasted chocolate taste with a light touch of coffee to it. Could have had a heavier mouthfeel (again with the Founderís IS comparison) but overall a solid brew. Too bad itís the only one I had (received in trade).

Really nice easy drinking stout. Creamy mouth feel and rich taste. Just wish it was a little darker.

Dark pour with little head though I do notice the carbonation when drinking. Good balance between hops and malts. Easy drinking dark beer.

NIce. Pours a very, very dark brown with a large head that settles quickly, leaving a thin foam on top. Aroma is sweet, big chocolate and caramel notes, balanced by hop ""pepper". Flavor is again sweet, lemon notes, burned chocolate, tobacco, and very thin coffe notes. Ending has a brief chalkyness to it, and a long grassy finish with tobacco notes interlaced. Hides the alcohol very well. Might be better if aged for a short time.

In the bottle from The Brown Derby International Wine Center. Pours black with a cascading brown head. Very large thick head with big bubbles. Has a strong molasses aroma. Slightly piney also. Big sorghum and chocolate taste. Thick palate. Toasted flavor as well. Mind-roasting flavor and big sweetness really make this beer something. Good sour milk tartness to the finish.
