This collaboration with Kaldi’s Coffee uses the cold toddy method of extraction for the coffee. We mix it with Oatmeal Stout for an exceptionally delicious beer.

I’ve never good experience with Schlafly, but this was a pretty good one. It pours almost black and is slightly translucent. The head is tan and thin but hangs around lacing all the way down the glass. To me, this tastes like cold coffee. It’s got a heavy coffee kick and quite a bitter aftertaste. Surprisingly, I found this to be a darn good coffee stout.

Poured from bottle. I smell coffee, licorice, vanilla and cocoa. Looks like a stout should. Coffee flavor is the lead, but it is not overpowering. Nut, vanilla, cocoa and licorice flavors complement the coffee well. Nicely done. I enjoyed this, and that says a lot from someone who is not a coffee fan.

12oz bottle from Crossroads Spirits. First snowfall in NJ for the 2013/2014 winter season. Just spent an hour shoveling my driveway so what better to have afterwards then a nice coffee stout! Pours a dark chestnut brown color with a finger of creamy mocha head. Aroma is mainly fresh ground coffee beans, some chocolate, and nuts. Taste of bitter black coffee, sweet chocolate, nutshells, and a hint of vanilla in the finish. Mouthfeel is thin, but pretty decent beer overall.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2013 First rating 12/1/2013: Pretty delicious for lovers of bold, dark roast coffee and espresso! Very very strong espresso aroma and flavor- a bit much for me as I’d like a bit more sweetness. Dark brown color with light brown head. Second rating 12/13/2013: Espresso flavor is very bold. Extreme coffee flavor makes it less than smooth.

Dark roasted coffee and fresh dirt on the nose. Medium brown body and foamy off-white head. Bitter coffee flavor with some burnt toast or smoke in the background. Smooth and creamy mouth feel.

Smells almost exactly like coffee. Also tastes like it. Reminds me a lot of Mother’s Winter Grind, but it’s a bit lighter overall flavor-wise, and the flavor doesn’t last quite as long.
