3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle from backlog notes. Pours dark brown in color with a small khaki colored head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, nice black coffee, decent bitterness, dark chocolate, very mild caramel, with an earthy finish. My only complaint is that the body is thin for a stout.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
(Bottle). Pours a deep brown with minimal head and little to no lacing on glass. Aroma of stale coffee and malt. Flavor is overwhelmed by bitter coffee. The brewer falls short with this selection.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark brown coloured body with a two centimetre tall tan head that fades fairly quickly. Aroma of coffee (duh), nuts, hay, grass, alcohol and a lot of roasted malt - strong and quite bitter smelling from the brewed coffee. Medium-bodied; Strong brewed coffee flavour with a lighter nutty and earthy pungency and a light grassy and herbal note. Aftertaste shows some nuttiness with a lot of coffee bitterness, but not from the beans, just from brewed coffee with no sweetness and not much complexity. Overall, a decent beer, but missing a lot of the real flavours you’d expect from this one and only showing the nuttier and bitter finish. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (Foggy Bottom), DC on 24-February-2014 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 05-June-2014.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, thnx to hopscotch. Pours a very dark brown, almost black beer with a small beige head on top. Aroma is mostly coffee and roasted malts and molasses. Flavor is coffee, sweet dark malts and it sure does honor to its name. Lots of coffee in there, sweet background. Long, light bitter aftertaste. Nice one.

Like drinking iced coffee. Only thing comparable is Founders Breakfast Stout and that is a different style. :)

Bottle. Dark brown pour that you can see through with ruby highlights. Decent head and lacing. Aroma is a strong coffee smell. A little funky. Taste is of light roasted coffee with hops noticeable in background. Very thin mouthfeel and moderate carbonation.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass.
Clear dark brown with a medium dark beige head.
Fresh coffee nose, with some dark chocolate and earthy hops.
Flavor is the same, with grassy notes, coffee dryness, medium bitterness, roasted malts and faint milk chocolate.
Medium bodied, a bit too lively, lacks some depth but quite OK.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance of a bowling ball; deep brown-black. The head is short-lived but it leaves quite a ring of lace on the glass.
The aroma is dry coffee grounds, and that’s about it. There is a hint of some dry mocha type stuff, but it’s very slight. Not unpleasant, just a little weak. A mild sugary sweetness, and a nutty quality as it warms up.
The taste is cold coffee (no surprise), with an ashy kind of flavor. Grainy and nutty both. You can taste the "brownness" in the malts. Slightly rounded at the edges, but mostly a sharp coffee ground bitterness.
Full-bodied, chewy and buttery on the palate. I have no beef with it at all, it just isn’t as complex as I had hoped.

On tap at 28 Springs thanks to Casey. Pours a medium brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is all coffee. Flavor follows. Mild carbonation. Not much maltiness at all. Nice medium bodied beer.
