3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap. Pours near opaque with a small, fizzy light tan head, short retention with light lacing. Aroma is heavy earthy and spicy coffee, medium roast and dark chocolate malt, and light hops. Flavor is fairly smooth coffee, dark malt, light bitterness, and a dry finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: JUN 2, 2009 Bottle (HBF2009)
Black, brief head. Coffee grounds aroma. Pleasant carbonation. Coffee dominates the taste. Canít judge the beer in the drink because itís hidden by the coffee. The combinationís a fairly OK drink though. So, mixing a beer with a coffee - how wonderfully original and skillful. Next ...

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap @ Schlafly St. Louis. Pours a brown appearance with a tan head. Roasty coffee, nice toffee, vanilla, enticing aroma. Dark fruity, plum, caramel coffee, a touch syrupy flavor. Iím a bit mixed but I think I like it.

Growler acquired in trade with xmarcnolanx (thanks!). Aromas of coffee, coffee grounds, roast, and soem chocolate. Iím a sucker for coffee beers, and I was really into the aroma on this one. Tastes of coffee, espresso, vanilla, and roast.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a very dark brown color with a medium tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of rich bitter coffee notes, nutty notes and a very faintly sweet finish. The taste is rich coffee, chocolate, faint bitter hops. Medium bodied. Smooth, moderate carbonation. Nice beer.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap at Paradiso Georgetown. The pour is a nice, deep ruby with a healthy mocha head. Semi sheety lace. Aroma is light hotel coffee but fairly muted. Taste is hotel coffee, very one-dimensional. Watery palate. Nothing offensive here but just super weak sauce at 5.7% for stout. At least itís not sugar sweet or syrupy. Pretty neutral and inoffensive.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draught at the brewpub. This beer is a nearly opaque dark brown color with ruby on the fringes. Thin and creamy off-white head that dissipates quickly, and spotty lacing. Aroma of coffee, oatmeal and roasted malt. Medium, smooth body with coffee, roasted barley and malt flavors. The finish is nutty with a lingering coffee aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
#1000 rating, and cool enough, it happened on the same day that my truck hit 200,000 miles on the way from Chicago to St. Louis. This one has a deep brown color with a creamy tan head. Strong nose of fresh espresso beans and chocolate... like eating those chocolate covered beans. Sweet coffee and creame flavor initially, then a nice even milk and scotch flavor, finishing off with a thick, robust finish. The flavor doesn't match the aroma, though, and with a little unwanted butter in the finish, this isn't the best coffee stout, but I still love anything that includes my two favorite drugs. mmmmmm

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
Roasted coffee beans and their charred edges are surrounded by tiramisu sweetness and chocolate in this agreeable Coffee Stout.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam sits atop the darkness.
-The finish is also a touch acidic.
-Carbonation is a bit too prickly for my liking in this type of dessert-like flavor profile.
-This is not trying to reinvent the style. Itís just doing a good job, and thatís fine with me when Iím in the mood for coffee flavors in beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thanks to Beerhandy for this. Pours deep brown with medium tan head. Aroma of malt, huge coffee, jalapeno oil. Tastes malty, very oatish, coffeeish, with some chocolate and hops at the finish. More chocolate syrup as it finishes, with tons of coffee all the way down. This one reminded me of Bellís Kalamazoo and Founderís Breakfast Stout, although it wasnít as complex or refined. Still, this one surprised me, and I loved every sip of it. Jeeves, get me another, my good sir!
