This light-colored, refreshing ale is THE beer of Cologne. Well balanced and mild mannered, this beer is great for summer.

Nice malty taste. Bottle at my dad’s house in Lebanon, MO. Purchased from Sam’s in Springfield, MO. Great tasting beer, nice mouthfeel. Nice green label. Sorry. Decent summer beer, and that’s all I really have to say about this.

6/20/2007: Schlafly Summer Kolsch pours a pale yellow color with a foamy white head. The aroma contains pale malts and a slightly grassy hop character. The flavor is mellow (Euopean-like) with a soft biscuit maltiness and a decent level of bitterness (sublte hay and noble spiciness). The beer is smooth and has a medium body. It is crisp and refreshing is nicely carbonated. Very balanced overall. This is one of the better Shlafly offerings that I have had thus far...

Draft at Flying Saucer Nashville, served by a waitress with nice boobies. It made it rather hard to concentrate on my beer, but here is what I remember. Pours a nice translucent gold with a white head. This has a solid malt profile for a summer beer, because its light without being watery. Aroma of pale malts (cereal and biscuit). Flavor of european malts, with accents of honey and biscuit. This is balanced by a nice subtle spicy bitterness. Clean and smooth finish. Nice summertime beer.

Bottle from Party Source. Poured clear golden color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate fruity sour citrus roma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Medium balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

Golden beer with a white head. Light armoa of flowers and sweetness. Smooth and claen on the palate. Refreshing on a hot day.

Pours a sparkling gold with a frothy white head. The aroma is quite muted with light bread notes and hints of chalk and medicine. The mouthfeel is light, slick and lively, with a slightly metallic finish. Moderately sweet with a clean corn finish, this one is quite crisp if unremarkable. While not my favorite style, this beer could be a great stand-in for crappy macros at this year’s summer barbecues.

(Tap) Pours a yellow color, with not much head to speak of. Light grainy aroma. Taste includes light hoppy notes, light malts and some sweet grassiness. Light mouthfeel, but pretty good for the style. Nicely balanced as well. It’s a pretty decent brew.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2007 12 oz. Bottle. Pour is golden, though a pretty dark gold. Aroma is wet grass and a touch of sweetness. The taste is clean and bright, with the hay and grass notes expected. The sweetness was in the taste as well, though I expected a bit more from the aroma. Overall, a nice drinkable summer beer, though I have had better Kölschs.

Some hops in the aroma. Bubbly dark gold with an even white head. Earthy smooth taste. Very hoppy but mildly bitter. Some fruitiness (pear?). Soft carbonation. Not bad...
