This light-colored, refreshing ale is THE beer of Cologne. Well balanced and mild mannered, this beer is great for summer.

Doppelganger (1388) - Dry County, Arkansas, USA - MAR 3, 2009
Bottle my friend Matt picked up on a road trip through St. Louis. Pale straw, modest white head. Aroma of dill and tomatoes in the sun, a bit of toasty dry malt. Saltine cracker flavor with a subtle herbal hop note. Pleasantly light bodied, though a respectable level of flavor volume. Restrained but not timid. Nice little beer.

(Sample Date: 11/28/2008 Source:Other) 12 oz bottle. Slightly grainy aroma with some spicy hop aroma. Mostly clear light golden with a frothy white head. Grainy sweetness with a moderate continental hop profile. Light body and mouthfeel. Clean slightly bitter spicy finish.

Bottle on 11/28/2008 in the Great Butters Tasting of 2008. Very slightly hazy golden body with a large frothy white head. Sweet corn and honey aroma. Sweet corn, light grain and honey flavor, some bready, slightly nutty hints. Medium light body with moderate carbonation.

TN tasting at Maniac’s. Pours a chill hazy pale yellow with large white head. Aroma of light grain and a touch of lemon citrus. Flavor is much the same with a little cardboard. Slick body and High carbonation and a slight hop bite on the finish. Not the best, but not bad either.

I like this style for the summer. Pours an incredibly pale light yellow color with a white head. Has a lot more flavor than what this thing looks like it might deliver. Aroma of toasted grain, malt. Some straw and hay as well. Flavor is slightly light malt, bread, grain. Light bodied and refreshing.

Beer pours form the bottle a very clear yellow, nice white foamy head and a lot of carbonation. Aroma is very strong of apple cider. The flavor is really light and slightly dry finish. What flavor there is, is of pale malt and very light lemon flavor. Not much else to it. Pretty simple boring beer.

Great golden color. Little to no head with zero lacing. Nicely balanced malt\hop flavor. Mildly sweet with nice finish. This is probably my favorite American version of this style

DerBiermeister (586) - Birmingham, Alabama, USA - AUG 31, 2008
This beer is light, yet well balanced and bodied as stated on the bottle itself. It has flavour and yet is not overpowering. This is probably my favourite Koelsch - arguably even better than my favourite authentic Koelsch from Koeln (Cologne, Germany) called Frueh. Sehr gut! Ausgezeichnet! Daumen hoch! (Very good! Excellent! Thumbs up!) ~ Z ~

Bottle from the Beergeek. Amber gold, nearly orange, color with a minimal white head. Aroma of mild malt and light, fruity hop. Near medium body with near creamy carbonation. Flavor is a bit caramel, which seems odd for the style, and the hop is quite light, just enough for balance, which seems right for the style. About as light and smooth as kolsch should be, just a bit too much malt.

From the brewpub in St. Louis, this draft pour was a clear light yellow with a very small white head and almost no lacing. Nose is very mild and of ripe fruit. Medium mouthfeel. Flavor is of caramel malts and some grassy hops. Slightly bitter finish. A pretty bland beer.
