3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
A: Pours a mildly hazy straw color. The head is a three finger white shade. Fluffy in texture, it lasts a decent duration and leaves behind streaks of lacing on the glass.
S: About what I expected: grassy hops are at the forefront. I could use some more fruity esters on the nose. However, this one’s all about showcasing the noble hops, and that’s not exactly a bad thing.
T: The fruity qualities I was looking for on the aroma are thankfully more prevalent here. Some light notes of cherry, apple, and lemon lead to a nicely crisp, grassy finish. Nothing here rewrites the book, it’s just enjoyable and very easy to drink.
M: Appropriately light and crisp. It’s not entirely bone dry, however; but the light fizziness to the carbonation makes it one that could conceivably be chugged.
O: I like this one as simple refreshment on a hot day. It even has a modicum of substance to it - allowing it to escape the pratfall of mindlessness many brews of its ilk fall prey to.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From tap, it's straw colored and has nice thick lace. Nose surprised me with fruity notes, but also a little sour. Taste is fruity, tart, floral with light grains and some mild sour esters. Light and crisp. A nice representation of the style with a traditional base, but a unique flare. I'd take this over most of the Kolsch I had in Cologne.

Draft at Churchkey, DC. Pale gold. Crisp, juicy, clean. Sweet and tasty. Solid, but not best kolsch around.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Close, but lacking some of the pure grain sweetness. Nice foamy head and lacing, but slightly cloudy. Hay, bready aroma, taste mostly white bread. Abrupt, flat finish.

Off metallic taste despite being in a bottle. Some hop bitterness and light citrus background wheat detectable as well. Not so good.

355ml bottle. Golden pour, foamy white head. Soapy and floral aroma, bready malt, very traditional. Flavor is a bit biscuity, but plenty of herbal hops, interesting yest note think frueh. Think this is is like with Koelner beers.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: golden, hazy, with a light white head that dissipate quickly.
Aroma: bready malt with kolsch yeast esters of pear and light pepper.
Taste: light malt sweetness that leads into a sharp, floral hop bitterness. Bitterness sharper than typical kolsch examples.
Mouthfeel: Light to moderate body with crisp carbonation.
Finish: Dry, with bitterness lingering on the tongue. Faint bready malt.
Overall: A bit heavier malt character and bitterness than a traditional kolsch. Yeast character spot on. Very drinkable.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
A hazed blonde kolsch with a thin white head. In aroma, light biscuit malt with grassy hops, grainy notes, OK. In mouth, a sweet fruity biscuit malt with light grassy hops, light grainy notes, pedestrian.

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
WTF? Kölsch? This is a Belgian Wit and even at that gone wrong. A modest 4.8% ABV yet you clearly smell alcohol before you can taste it. Way too much malt in the taste and so cloudy you’d think they dissolve the brewer’s old gloves in it. Maybe that explains the sour off taste. Might be interesting yeast for something Belgian, but for Kölsch it isn’t even the right color. Laughable.

Nice straw yellow color and an interesting yeast profile. Light finish and not bad at all.
