This light-colored, refreshing ale is THE beer of Cologne. Well balanced and mild mannered, this beer is great for summer.

Pours a pale golden with a thin white head that doesn’t stay around long. Weak aroma reminds me of something American. :( Tastes OK, but nothing really stands out here. No intense malt or hop flavors, everything is subdued, with a hint of sourness. Had it for lunch, goes OK with food, but I’d rather have a pale ale. Not a repeat for me.

On tap at Ellyn’s Tap & Grill in Glen Ellyn, IL. and dispensed to a brewery logoed Altbier/Kolsch glass showing a clear, medium gold color, with a presentable layer of frothy, white head foam, and wavy, etched-like lacing. The nose was subtle grain, and light estery notes as lemon, pear & apple. Light to medium bodied, with lively carbonation, and an altogether crisp & clean presence. A neglected style that is one of my favorite, sessionable brews. This one doesn’t disappoint.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a light note of soap. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Simple, light and watery, and has some rough edges, but ok.

A pretty basic kolsch. It’s like the crips as it should be. Not too much flavor but well balanced.

Pours a golden yellow whit a white head. Grass, clove, banana aroma. I liked it more than I thought I would. Probably be more enjoyable on a hot day. A b-day gift from L&J, thanks a bunch.

Pours clear gold with a thick off white head. Aroma is decidedly German with a bit of skunk. Taste is a tad bitter with a typical Kolsch flavor. Not a bad Kolsch.

Bready, yeasty aroma with some notes of grass. Deeper than expected yellow with a pillowy off white head. Rich malt up front. Somewhat sweet. Notes of bread and sweet corn. Bitterness is mild on the back end, with mild note of pepper and spices. Nice carbonation. Average Kolsch.

12 oz. bottle pours a hazy yellow/straw color with small white head. Aroma is grainy but with a bit of lemon. Taste is slightly bitter with an abrupt finish and aftertaste of wheat. Body is light with lively carbonation and a crisp mouthfeel. A refreshing summer beer, but nothing too memorable.
