3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
My Bottom Line:
This bubbly Kölsch knows how to showcase its delicate malts atop mineral and fruity angles for a refreshing experience.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam tops the misty pale gold.
-Carbonation is much more intense than that of the real deal in Köln. Mineralities are made obvious as well.
-Apart from the mouthfeel which is different, the flavor profile is rather authentic.
-Hop bitterness is zesty and herbal.
-The body is lean and drinkability quite high.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
This pours a golden amber color with a slight white head. The aroma is slightly fruity but also has an awkward grain smell. The taste is smooth, easy drinking but very light and finishes dry on the tongue. Kind of has a cheap straw/grain taste that I’m sure will turn some people off but then again that’s why Kolsch style beers aren’t too popular.

Bottle at this hip new Indian joint in east village. I feel kolsch is nice with curry and there was plenty of curry in the tasting menu I ordered. Fine golden beer with puffy white head. Nose is lightly floral and small hops. Tastes of floral, bread crust, straw, touch of lemon. Easy drinking and refreshing.

Keg at the brewery taproom. Pours clear yellow-gold with a creamy, white head. Crispy straw and pale cereal in the aroma. Light sweet flavour with simple white bread, more cereal, light bitter hay. Light bodied with average carbonation. Clean finish, with cereal and biscuits, faint lemon, straw. Solid.

On tap at Bent Rail in Indianapolis. Pours clear copper. Aroma is crisp and carbonated with a touch of German hops. Outstanding kolsch, a bit on the full-bodied side of the kolsch spectrum, maybe but not quite crossing the line into an alt.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at Ellyn’s Tap & Grill in Glen Ellyn, IL. and dispensed to a brewery logoed Altbier/Kolsch glass showing a clear, medium gold color, with a presentable layer of frothy, white head foam, and wavy, etched-like lacing. The nose was subtle grain, and light estery notes as lemon, pear & apple. Light to medium bodied, with lively carbonation, and an altogether crisp & clean presence. A neglected style that is one of my favorite, sessionable brews. This one doesn’t disappoint.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a light note of soap. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
Simple, light and watery, and has some rough edges, but ok.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
A pretty basic kolsch. It’s like the crips as it should be. Not too much flavor but well balanced.
