UPDATED: SEP 15, 2015 Another cool Single Malt And Single Hop (SMASH) from Schlafly. On tap at the Bottleworks. It poured a golden amber color with moderate white foam, lasting with a little lace. I don’t think I’d had Meridian hops before, which have been described as “sweet lemon,” “mixed berry,” “tropical fruit,” and “cool mint.” I don’t know about all that, but I definitely picked up some unfamiliar citrus and tropical, melon-y notes. Nice mild malt backbone underneath, a tad nutty, biscuity, cracker-y. Faint ale yeast esters. Medium body and carbonation. Fruity for awhile, then a relatively crisp, dry finish. A pleasant and well-balanced hoppy pale ale.

Pours crystal clear light yellow with a white head. The aroma is quite hoppy with herbalness, fruit and spiciness. There is some offsetting sweetness from pale malt and it comes across very clean. It has a light body, but it is still a little sticky with a mild amount of carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of spice and herbal notes. The malt is very crisp and bright like fresh blonde ale and has a bit of crackers. The finish gets spicy and has a touch of sulfur. Really solid beer.
