COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlafly No.20, Volume 2: Hop Toddy was created by the second generation of Schlafly brewers – James “Otto” Ottolini, now head of brewing operations at Schlafly Bottleworks, and Sara Hale and Jack Petrovic, who are involved in St. Louis’ local food movement. Hop Toddy showcases our desire to experiment beyond the boundaries of traditional beer styles. This wheat ale is brewed with local wheat and honey, with a hint of concentrated lemon juice. A dry-hopping with Citra hops and aging in bourbon barrels makes it the beer equivalent of a hot toddy.

0.75 l bottle at Chris O’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Hazy orange color. Strong peach and lemon aroma. Sweet and tart flavor with peach, toffee, lemon and weird glue taste. Not in balance.

Unclear medium orange colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, moderate hoppy, blood orange, apricot, apple, peach. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet, light light acidic and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, fruity, peppery. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110730]

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2011. Nice fruit salad nose, grapefruit, dry pineapple. Orange to brown color. Big oak flavor, vanilla, sweet lemon or orange, rhubarb? Interesting but not good.

An orange pour with a white head. The aroma has notes of honey and a heavy dose of citrus. The medium body has an oily texture with lively carbonation. The initial taste is bittersweet with noticeable honey flavor. There is some hop bite in the middle, then it finishes smooth with a slight whiskey warmth.

Bottle at Chris O’s pre GBBF shindig, 2011. Hazy orange with a white head. Crisp peach and tangerine aroma. Nice nose. Very fruity indeed. Orange peel, pear and peach flavour. Fruit filled finish. Nice.

Bottle at chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig ’11. It pours hazy orange, with a thin foamy white head. The nose is fennel, aniseed, tangy orange and mango. The taste is blood orange, tangy orange, mango, pineapple, banana, Um Bungo and red apple, with some alcohol warmth and solid bitterness in finish. The smell is a bit odd, but the taste is awesome.

Bottle at ChrisO’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Pours hazy gold with a big, white foam head. Kind of an odd aroma, some kind of tangy fruits, strong notes of rhubarb. Slightly tangy flavor, mild bitterness. Medium in body with average carbonation. Lightly warming finish, more tangy fruits, light citrus, rhubarb, faintly bitter. Certainly unique.

A Mes rate. At Chris O’s pre GBBF.
Hazy gold with a thin White head. This is bizarre stuff. Really tangy and fruity. Loads of bloody orange with a really interesting sourness. Slight vanilla barely stuff. Not something I’d go mad for but the interest value is through the roof.
