Bottle. Light roasted malt.toffee flavor. Very watery for a stout. Finsh is crisp with some CO2. This isn’t bad, there just isn’t much there.

I was so looking forward to my pals bringing this down from St.Louis and yet so disappointed when it arrived. It is a stout so automatically gets good ratings but a disappointing one nonetheless.

tap. black with a bold white head that leaves lacing down the glass. aroma is of coffee. flavor is a strong roast coffee that is consistent from start to finish. had this with the sticky toffee pudding, and it was almost orgasmic. i love stouts and i love this one.

Pours a nice dark black. With a smallish tan head. Aroma is smoky and coffee. Flavor is coffee, chocolate, oats carmel, malts and vanilla. Lots of things to roll over the tounge on the way down. Very flavorful and pleasing. Schlafly’s best by a mile.

This beer was sampled off of the tap at The Tap Room in St. Louis. This beer pours a black color with a definite creamy pearlish head. The aroma is of coffee, vanilla, brown sugar, caramel, oats, and chocolate. The taste is very sweet and incredibly balanced. Chocolates, vanilla, and oats surround your palate upfront with bittering dry and grainy chocolate and hops in the finish to balance this out. Oats and dry malts finish this beer and lead to a slightly astringent hop bittering finish. Nice and well rounded.

Pours deep dark brown with slight tan head. Nose is of carmel maltiness and a slight roasty vanilla presence. Flavor is like sweet, oatmeal drowned with molasses. Nice bitter contrast and somewhat smoky finish.

Sample at the Taproom. Dark molasses color, a bit thin-looking. Big, creamy chocolate nose, with nice helpings of coffee and vanilla. Really interesting flavors, quite sweet and choco-caramelly with that swath of vanilla throughout; fabulous body, very thick but quite drinkable; bit lactic, sour and vinous at the finish. Somehow manages to be light, refreshing, deep and complex all at once; world-class sweet stout.

The oatmeal sweetness is quickly accompanied by caramel and a touch of hops. Of the brewer’s products that I tasted, this was my favorite pending the rest...

UPDATED: NOV 21, 2006 On tap at the Bottleworks brewpub. Dark brown with ruby highlights. This is a very mellow stout. Roasted flavor with a great hop tang. A very thick malt finish. Smooth oatmeal balance, but body is slightly on the weak side. Beer becomes sweeter as it warms. UPDATE 11/2006: Not as great as I once thought. Good roastd flavor and rich, but is lacking in the aroma category. Definitely drink this on tap, not in the bottle.

Bottle - big roasty aroma. Very nice! Dark brown with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Roast in the flavor as well with a biting bitterness. Smooth palate with just a touch of fizz. Another good one from Schlafly!
