2.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Aroma is chocolate but not picking much else up. Appearance is dark brown almost black with a small light tan head. Taste reminds me of a Guiness but much sweeter and more flavorful. Palate is a bit thin but ok. Overall pretty good.

This beer is even steven. Solid, balanced, black, dry, earthy. I bought it at that little store in Grand Central Terminal.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Keg @ Beer Run. Deep brown with a tight creamy head. The nose is strong oatmeal. Deep, earthy roasted malts. Cocoa. The taste is quite sweet. Chocolate chip oatmeal cookies. A bit of cinnamon and vanilla. Slightly spicy in the dry finish. Light, effervescent body. OK.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Poured a black color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of rich roasted malt notes with a side of black chocolates. Taste is also dominated by some roasted malt with a side of black chocolate. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Not the most complex beer but well enjoyable with good balance between the flavours and good drinkability.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Oatmeal stouts have a way of triggering the pleasure receptors in my brain. I love the balance and sleek feel that they have to offer - well, the good ones, anyway. Schlafly’s oatmeal stout provides all of that. It has a brownish-black body that is surprisingly light, but the blanket of small, tight bubbles creates a lovely head. It’s perfectly smooth and the balance between the chocolate and roasted coffee spice is excellent. Aroma is a little light, but offers an enticing scent of fresh coffee and spicy cocoa. The finish is creamy but also refreshing. These St. Louis brewers clearly have a handle on the style. This beer gives the legendary English oatmeal stouts a run for their money.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2014 Bottle into snifter glass, deep dark brown color with dark tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, dark fruit and slight tart note. Taste brings out stronger coffee notes, some nuttiness, breadiness and cocoa. Medium body, low carbonation, creamy with roast finish. Interesting tart-leaning aroma, overall solid oatmeal stout.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
14oz on tap at St Loius Shlafly Bar and Grill at the airport.
A - Dark brown body with 1 finger of tan head. Solid patterns of lacing.
S - Roasted malts, dusting of cocoa powder, hints of coffee.
T - Chocolate grains, dark roasted malty bitterness, dark bread crust, coffee bitterness on the finish.
M - Moderate stingy carbonation, light bodied.
Nice roast character with cocolate bitterness. Moderate stingy carbonation takes away from some of the smoothness I was hoping for. All in all good, but not great.
Serving type: on-tap

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
They really threw the kitchen sink into this one- to the point where I am having to do some serious swishing to be able to identify individual flavors because it is so intense. Definitely your typical stout malts and some roasted malts, plus notes of coffee, chocolate, raisins, and, of course, oatmeal. Got this in a mix sixer, but I think I may have yo look into availability and pricing for full 6 or 12 packs of this in my area. Best stout I’ve had in a while.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A dark brown to black color with a beige head. The aroma contains mostly chocolate and coffee. The flavor is more bitter than sweet with a lot of coffee showing up. Some oats and chocolate in there also. The finish is also slightly bitter. Overall a nice session stout.
