3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark with a roasty nose. Charleston Chew thickness, with a rather heavy mouthfeel. Smooth with a low carbonation level. Quite a bit of roast. Mild hops. Some bitterness lingers on the roof of the mouth for some time, and residual bitterness seems to build. 3/4 the way into the sip, it felt very porter-like to me, for some strange reason. Pretty good stout!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
2nd Bottle six days later: mmmmm...chocolately! Also, really nice yeast component in the aroma. Up a tiny notch on this wonderful beer! I’m having this bottle at home in better testing conditions (the previous one I had at the office). Original: 8/25/02: Creamy, balanced and just wonderful. Roastiness is perfect, a tiny bit of nut, fruitiness, and big hops at the finish close this thing tremendously. I have to make it down to St. Louis, because on tap (as MaxPower suggests) this could be an all time favorite. Thanks, Max, for sending it to me.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a beautiful beer. Nice creamy palate. Good malt flavor and the oatmeal sweetness really shines through at room temperature.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
One of the better Oatmeal Stouts I’ve had. A sweet malt front with a nice roasted/hop dry finish. A pleasant pint to quaff at Blueberry Hill!

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black red; zero head; oil-cherry nose. Surprisingly bracing to start. Evens out a bit towards the end- lack of depth hurts this one.

3.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Damn! This is one fine brew. The taste is even a bit sweet (but just a bit). And there’s some chocolate and coffee flavors in there, too. A minor roasty flavor’s present, too. It’s like sucking on a burnt log.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very dark red-black in color with a hearty khaki-colored head. Sweet brown sugar aroma. Initial flavor is sweet (almost brown-sugary sweet like the aroma) with slight carbonation. Finishes with a nice tingly hop bite that slowly mellows. Very nice, creamy stout.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Why can I see through the glass? Wheres the ever-lasting head? Not nearly sweet enough or dense enough for the style, can’t come close to Sammy’s.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2006 Strong-coffee color, with tan head. Malt flavors are sweet and chocolatey. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel and long finish. Some lightly spiced hops make up part of the aftertaste, too. Medium body. Definitely a tasty beer, one of the best this brewer makes.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I’ve had this in the bottle and on draft and they are both worth it. It has a great aroma, with a nice head and great lace. There is a strong, roasty flavor balanced with a sweet malt taste. There is a nice finish and it is very smooth in the drinking.
