This beer is awsome. I am lucky eneuogh to live in St. Louis where it is brewed and i can get it right off the tap. If you like Schlafly oatmeal stout try their other reasonably priced beers. If you ever get the chance try the esb or the real ale on tap. Now thats good stuff.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 5, 2003 This beer rocks!
It pours as a thick, oily black liquid. Only when held up to a high-powered halogen lamp is one enabled to behold the beautiful, deep crimson hue.
The medium-sized, creamy, khaki-colored head is mostly, but not fully, diminishing with decent lacing.
The aroma is of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee swirled with rich, Belgian milk chocolate. Small acrid, cherry and lightly floral notes.
The flavor is of creamy, dark roasted malt, bittersweet chocolate, soy sauce and mild coffee up front. Well-hopped with moderate bitterness and tartness on the backside.
Full-bodied with a fizzy and moderately creamy mouthfeel.
Lengthy, sour, lightly bitter and mostly dry finish with more Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee at the very wee end.
It's what a stout should be. Nothing really sweet about the beer. My guess is that ANY OATMEAL Stout is classified as a sweet stout. Good stuff. Have one!

Opaque black color with a tan head that lasts about 10 seconds. Slightly fruity aroma. Fairly strong roasted malt aroma. Slightly bready. A touch of smoke in the nose. Great flavor of malt, caramel, roast, smoke. Very creamy, silky mouthfeel. Great flavor in this nice oatmeal stout. Good stuff.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2003 kinda roasty and oaty yet a little sour in the aroma..the color was a not so opaque black with a thin layer of stuff on top..flavor was solid roasty malts..no off flavors at all..tad oatey..some chocolate too and firm & full body...nothing stands out as being too outstanding either, but definitely above average.

Growler: Dark, thick milk chocolate flows from the 1/2 gallon jug. . .a small off white head slowly rises. . .coffee, and burnt roasted malts float to my nose. . .flavours abound toffee, chocolate, big roasted malts. . .a fine stout!
