This beer is awsome. I am lucky eneuogh to live in St. Louis where it is brewed and i can get it right off the tap. If you like Schlafly oatmeal stout try their other reasonably priced beers. If you ever get the chance try the esb or the real ale on tap. Now thats good stuff.

Pours rich dark mahogany it looks dark brown with a small tan head. Smells strongly of malts and sweet oatmeal. Tastes malty and richly of oatmeal. Full-bodied with a creamy texture and average mouth carbonation, Schlafly Oatmeal Stout finishes smooth with faint dryness.

Aroma is roasted malts, grains and a hint of coffee bitterness. The flavor is chocolate/coffee, roasted malts and mild acidity/tartness in the finish, mixed with the malts. Great stout, among Schlafly’s best offerings.

On tap and bottle. I loved this one after not wanting to give it a shot. Dark and full bodied, barley very evident and loads of taste. Had several 6-packs since the Brew Pub sampler tray.

A deep brown pour with red highlights and frothy tan head. It has a sweet malty aroma with nice roasted notes. The taste is full and creamy with a sweet begining and roasted dry finish. This is my favorite Schlafly brew.

Purchased at Schlafly Taproom in St Louis, MO; enjoyed on a hot Sunday afternoon, the last one of my 20’s (b-day is tomorrow). Appearance is a beautiful pitch black with a creamy tan/chocolatey head. Aroma is fantastic, nice roasted chocolate malts, coffee, lactose, slight nutty, a bit of caramel too, sweet but balanced. Taste is also just like the aroma - fantastic. Very smooth, not too much carbonation, equal caramel and chocolate notes rounded out by the creaminess of lactose and maybe a touch of vanilla. The oats actually do come out in the mix on this one and they’re more apparent than any other OS I’ve had. Did I mention it was smooth? Because after a minute it’s half gone and that bums me out. Fantastic fantastic stuff, will definitely enjoy again!

2nd Bottle six days later: mmmmm...chocolately! Also, really nice yeast component in the aroma. Up a tiny notch on this wonderful beer! I’m having this bottle at home in better testing conditions (the previous one I had at the office). Original: 8/25/02: Creamy, balanced and just wonderful. Roastiness is perfect, a tiny bit of nut, fruitiness, and big hops at the finish close this thing tremendously. I have to make it down to St. Louis, because on tap (as MaxPower suggests) this could be an all time favorite. Thanks, Max, for sending it to me.

Deep dark beer with a nice beige head, and sheets of lace. Sweet almost burnt sugar nose, front is malt sweet, the middle smooth, the finish a bit hop bitter, and just a tad dry. Medium body and mild carbonation, a really nice stout, not overpowering, just damn nice thanks once again trap.

A very dark and viscous brown color with a creamy white head. Aroma is roasted and buttery. Sweet malty body with coffee and chocolate finish. Good complexity. Very smooth and robust, a must try if you can get it.
