Bottle: Pours a deep black, no detectable floaties, medium creamy head, good lacind, fairly thick, somewhat sweet. Is that bacon I tatste? Good hop balance. All in all, a very enjoyable stout.

Really dark color that wouldnt let any light through. I’m liking this stuff already. Roasty malts and sweet oatmeal aromas make the anticipation even greater. The flavor is a lot of the above with just the right amount of sweetness. Could use a bit more hop bite but thats just my two cents. Really enjoyable.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 humulus (339) - Salem, Missouri, USA - MAY 20, 2003
Bottle in Minnesota, though bought at the brewery in St. Louis. A bit lighter than I would prefer, this brew has a robust roast and slight grapish flavor. Though not a strong beer, it has a redeeming complexity and a smooth ride down the gullet (no gizzard necessary).
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 garrison (718) - Cin. city, Ohio, USA - MAR 9, 2007
From a twelve ounce bottle purchased at "Liqour Direct" in Covington, Kentucky - This one pours a black brew with a tan head and a dry, malty aroma. Tastewise, it’s a good stout, with rich burnt chocolate overtones, but the oatmeal taste doesn’t appear until the finish. A ood beer, but somewhat atypical of the style.

tap. black with a bold white head that leaves lacing down the glass. aroma is of coffee. flavor is a strong roast coffee that is consistent from start to finish. had this with the sticky toffee pudding, and it was almost orgasmic. i love stouts and i love this one.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 otakuden (1704) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - SEP 16, 2011
Appearance: dark burnt woods with garnet glints along the bottom. Khaki head spreads out from the middle like a spider web with a tight collar. Swirls thick but no lace.
Nose: roasted oats, dry brittle chocolates, burnt toast ends. Twigs and ash. Dark fruit stones in the back, almonds. Mulled oats tossed in bakers chocolate powder. Old earth undertones.
Palate: smooth creamy mouthfeel. Soft oats rolled in chocolate powder. Chocolate sits amidst rich earth littered with dry twigs and fallen leaves. Raisins and grapes in the middle. Tannic and fruit stone bitterness along the edges. Very soft mouthfeel. Dry chocolate finish parches the throat.
Final Thoughts: loved it. It’s been a long time since I’ve tasted a Schlafly beer and yes, they are still good. So many beers, so little time…but I am going to darn well try.

Black ,thin head,some lacing.
Aroma is malty chocolate, plum, anise, fruit, and a strong vannilla oakish, kindof woodiness.Comes off as an exotic type fruit. I guess it would be the raison,I think its some yeast esters.Fine tobacco.
Taste is same as aroma all of those notes intensify in a complex taste. This is a really good oatmeal stout. Has a nice unique character to it.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours nearly pitch black with a one and a half finger dark tan head. Excellent head retention with a cap remaining over halfway through the glass. Nearly a solid wall of lacing as well. Impressive.
Lot of coffee in the aroma along with a solid shot of dark chocolate. Nice dark roasted malt and a touch of dark fruits.
Rich roasted malt, espresso, and dark chocolate on the taste. The chocolately roast just carries on for what seems like forever and is perfect with the silky smoothe mouthfeel provided by the oats in the mash. The more I drink this, the more I pick up on some plums and dates as well. Just a moderate bitterness that is enough to balance out the sweetness.
Overall, one of the better oatmeal stouts I have had. Lots of roast and chocolate and a great mouthfeel. A wonderful dessert beer.
