murawski (158), USA Sep 20, 2006 decent aroma and color, and balances mildly sweet maltiness with a touch of hops and spice (just about right for a Marzen). However, I just don’t think Schlafly puts a lot of care into their ales, and this one does not surpass their standard run-o-the-mill beer. Although, it’s definitely worth trying if you’re stuck at the Schlafy tap room or bottleworks (just don’t get the pale ale, for god’s sake).
FishManLA (181), Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA Oct 5, 2008 Orangy amber with a smallish fast dissipating head. Light lacing. Malty aroma. Taste of malts and caramel with some subtle fruity notes and a very slight astringency. Short, minimal, slightly bitter finish. A fairly typical Oktoberfest/Marzen. GJF (240), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Oct 1, 2008 Fairly standard oktoberfest. Nice sweet aroma of malt with a touch of apple. Lots of malt flavor, but a bit of that skunky lager taste in the finish. Not bad, though, as it clears very quickly. Not the best of the style, but I’d drink it again. TheBeerOrg (1391), Kentucky, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bright orangish golden with a mostly receding off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, bready munich. Taste is caramel, crackery malt, dark bread. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, soft to moderate carbonation tending towards dryness. BrewCzar (71), St Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 22, 2008 Bottle pours amber with a medium sized off white head. Aroma is semi-sweet, bready, caramel, and citrus. Taste starts slightly sweet, mostly toasted malts, grains, with a lightly bitter finish. Rynoplasty (234), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Sep 17, 2008 Pours amber with a medium sized cream colored head. Aroma and taste are malty and smooth. A good Marzen.
