Pours a golden color with amber hues. From the nose, you can immediately determine that this is not a pale ale with American hops. The smell is malty with a slight hint of floral British hops. The body has a caramel/toffee flavors from the crystal malts, and a bit of toasty undertones. The hops are slightly spicy, citrus and floral, which are a bit underwhelming due to the sweet caramel/toffee flavors in the body from the residual sugars. I believe this beer is more of an ESB than a pale ale, especially after getting the yeast on the tongue, but styles are blurred these days anyway. Good beer, not great, and has potential if IBUs are reconsidered.

Bottle. Aroma is mild malt with resinous hops and some basement aroma. Appearance is clear golden brown with nice sparkle, 2 finger-width head with fair retention and fair lacing. Taste is light sweet which is dominated by light bitter. Palate is light bodied with thin texture with average carbonation and bitter-dominant finish. Overall, a pretty mild offering that looks nice and is more bitter than sweet.

Bottle as part of a Schlafly sampler pack. I enjoyed their pumpkin ale so much, I wanted to try some others by them. Pours a standard amber color with a half inch of white head that recedes quickly. Loose, spotty lacing on the glass. Thin aroma of grains. Flavors of bread, subtle malty caramel. Not much else. Medium carbonation and medium body. This isn’t a bad tasting beer, but very boring and forgettable. I certainly hope the oatmeal stout and APA in this pack are better than this. Otherwise, I’ll be sticking to their pumpkin ale as the only recurring purchase of Schlafly’s offerings.

March madness 2015. The pale ale is pale. It is as it is supposed to be, a little middle of the road. So it’s easily drinkable but it’s not all that interesting. Buttery malt texture saves it.

On tap at the at louis airport during a layover. Pours burnt orange w minimal head nose is pretty subtle, some citrus hop, some malt- a little muddled. Taste is even more muddled, a bit stale. Missing the brightness the flavor seems to pretend used to be there. Overall blah but not offensive by any means
