stimguy (13), Lake St Louis, Missouri, USA Oct 27, 2007 Poured from a 12 oz bottle. Amber color, very little head. Quite spicy and a noticable pumpkin taste which is good. Much better than what i was expecting Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Oct 26, 2007 Poured from a 12 oz. Transparent orange, rusty. Basic pumpkin aroma, not especially pleasant or pungent, with an allspice and brown sugar glaze. Tepid, reserved flavor of papery seeds, some crystal, light candy tones and slick vegetal sugars; the butternut presence is lucid and interesting. Dry in the mouth, with a light to medium texture. Simple and reasonable. Thanks for sharing, Ken! lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 25, 2007 bonused bottle courtesy of Drmatt
Pours a nice clear amber with a very quickly fading head. Smell is fairly big for a pumpkin. Nice aromatic pumpkin pie like spiced nose. Taste is very nicely spicy and not just spiced, but truly almost spicy at times. Easily the best pumpkin beer I’ve yet had. Very nice, full, rich body, and robust pumpkin flavor. Was expecting another mediocre pumpkin beer, and I got a lot more. This was absolutely delicious and I’ll be looking for this in Autumns to come. kmweaver (2396), Sebastopol, California, USA Oct 22, 2007 12oz bottle, courtesy of tjthresh. Thanks, Tom! Pours a bright, orange-amber color; significant white head with good retention and creamy fine-bubbled lacing that lasts forever; a great pour. Very pleasant spice profile in the aroma: an emphasis on nutmeg and cinnamon, but withouth any of the typical harsh, dry spiciness that tends to inhabit pumpkin ales; this is instead warm and fiery and ultimately soft. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: warm spiciness and some creamy sugar notes; solid levels of carbonation; sort of a one-dimensional sugar-based maltiness, but the spice profile is (like the aroma) expectional and pleasant; definitely one of the better pumpkin beers I’ve had. Medium, candy sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in the finish. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Oct 21, 2007 (Bottle) Pours a clear copper body with a small off-white head. Aroma of pumpkin spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and sweet caramel. Flavor of caramel, pumpkin, and allspice. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Oct 14, 2007 12 oz. bottle courtesy of MrRain. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a moderate linen white head that lasted through most of the glass and left nice lacing. Pleasant aroma of pumpkin, sweet malt, and pumpkin pie spices. The flavor is a bit subdued but very well balanced with pumpkin, sweet malt and pumpkin pie spice all present. The alcohol was very well hidden. One of the better pumpkin ales I have tried this year. Cletus (5002), Connecticut, USA Oct 8, 2007 Bottle courtesy of tjthresh. Pours coppery red with a thin white head. Smells strongly of pumpkin pie spice, cookie dough, some sweet malt. Tastes of pumpkin pie spice, lots of caramel, hints of pepper. Finishes of molasses and hints of pumpkin. madscotsman (147), Fairview Heights, Illinois, USA Sep 23, 2007 Where do I start with this beer. had a nice amber color with little to no head. Had a nutmeg and clove spice aroma. The palate was amazing when it first hits the taste buds. It was like eating a piece of pumkin pie after a nice Thanksgiving dinner. The 8% was nicely masked and the finish was very balanced. Thumbs up to Schlafly for this great fall beer.
