tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Oct 13, 2008 Bottle at the 2008 pre-Brewers’ Jam Warmup. Pours copper with small beige head. The aroma is nutmeg, some squash, and caramel. The flavor is caramel, pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon stands out most to me). The finish is smooth and semi-sweet. Pretty good. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Oct 13, 2008 Bottle. Poured a hazy copper with a frothy off-white head that settles to a ring. Nice aroma of pumpkin, clove, and nutmeg. The flavor has much the same of the aroma (pumpkin and nutmeg) but also ginger bread, cinnamon, and other sweet malts. Medium body. I’ll have to keep a few of these around for Thanksgiving dessert. lithy (1600), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 12, 2008 Suttree’s 2008 Pre-Brewer’s Jam Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to Beer Hawk. Slightly hazy but light orange with a thin off white head. Spicy aroma, cinnamon, nutmeg. Heavy body with a sweet pumpkin pie palate. Great finish. Have had others that smell great but are too thin in body. This one is full and sweet like pumpkin pie. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Oct 12, 2008 on tap at Nach Bar. Wow, I am surprised to see this beers rating (and abv) as so high. It was fine, but, like many tohers, not exactly what I’m looking for in a pumpkin beer. It seems to struggle with making the pumpkin/spice work really well with the beer flavor. And, like many other pumpkins, it also seems to be out of balance in that there is too much spice and not enough pumpkin. Overall: not the best or worst pumpkin. I admit though, there is a definite bias in all of my pumpkin ale ratings now that I have had PumKing, to which no pumpkin beer can compare IMO. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Oct 12, 2008 opper, no head. Aroma is pumpkin pie, as you might expect - lots of cinnamon, clove brown sugar. Flavor is alos pie-y, with a lot of the same flavors. oddly dry, crisp finish. bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 11, 2008 Bottle: Thanks Eric for the bottle...pours a clear copper color with a quickly diminishing white head. Nose has notes of pumpkin pie, biscuity malts, cinnamon and nutmeg. I let this sit for a little bit after initially tasting and it definitely improves as it warms a bit...slick, bity mouth feel...flavor is of pumpkin pie, cinnamon, nutmeg and some caramel notes. Very good and refreshing for this time of the year...I never tire of this style. Pawola22 (676), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 10, 2008 On tap at the flying saucer in KC. Pours a clear, light red-orange with a small, white head that leaves a nicely laced ring around the beer and on the surface throughout the session. Aroma of pumpkin pie. Very nice and complex. Assortments of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger bread cookies, pumpkin bread, cloves, and sweet malts. The flavor is very similar. Lots of fresh pumpkin pie spices and a buttery sweet malt. Not too bitter and finishes warm. Full bodied and the alcohol is very well hidden. Overall, the best pumpkin beer I’ve had to date. Hats off to the brewery for actually make a beer taste like it’s supposed to. Great flavor and body. A must try. viethe (3), Holts Summit, Missouri, USA does not count Sep 29, 2008 One of the best pumpkin beers out there. From the moment you pop the top and begin the pour, the aroma of fall arises. The taste of pumpkin pie or pumpkin muffins, slightly warming thanks to the decent ABV, and without being overly sweet. It’s well balanced with a semi-thick mouthfeel, and the aftertaste of cinammon and nutmeg grows pleasantly with each drink. Highly recommended.
