3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted on tap at Bottleworks into a nonic half-pint. It poured a nice amber colour with everlasting white head, spritzy little bubbles and lots of Belgian lace. Aromas of berry fruit, strawberry shortcake, smokey, resiny, woodsy, mellow but outrageously flavorful. Flavour was nutty, biscuity, light grainy sweetness with faint apricot, perfectly ripened plums, golden raisins, gingerbread crackers--and I swear--peppermint and juicy fruit gum. Medium body and carbonation, very well-rounded bready mouthfeel and lingering caramelly bittersweet aftertaste (odd since it contains no caramelized malts.) I’ve had all the Schlafly hop trials so far. Rakau is by far the most surprising so far, and my favorite. I went back for a growler fill, and hope to get more before it’s gone. I didn’t expect to rate a SMASH so highly.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Beautiful nearly clear red amber. Thin head. Very unique flavor. Its a deep, but gentle bitterness..kind of like dandelion but not as sour. Slight pine.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This may be my favorite of the hop trails Schlafly has been doing. Pours crystal clear golden copper with an off-white head. The aroma has tangerine, grapefruit, light malt in back and overall bright smooth citrus. It has a light crisp body with a modest amount of carbonation. The taste is quite fruity with some stone fruit added to the citrus. There is also a bit of spice, moderately toasted malt and some rye bread. The finish is a bit more biting with the citrus aspect, quite dry and heavy on the peppery / spice aspect. Very nice and quite full flavored for only 4.1%.
