COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer is aged on new Missouri oak. The wood has a medium toast, which helps to caramelize the sugars in the oak and adds a nutty character to the beer as it soaks into the wood. Leave the corkscrew in the kitchen drawer and pop open a beer that will reward you with more flavors than most wines can dream of.

On tap at Rich Oís. Pours a bold amber color with a small white head. The nose is very caramelized with strong bourbon character. Iím thinking this one isnít gonna be subtle. Yep, loads of bourbon in the flavor but it is very, very creamy and smooth. Plenty of charred oak, vanilla is present with a sweet and slightly fruity finish like dates or apricots perhaps. Though it did draw a lot of flavor from the barrel aging, it hasnít become completely one sided. Iím getting a little more undertones like Wertherís candies, maybe a little earth. Hey, itís pleasant but nothing to seek out.

750 ml bottle sampled at DLD. Pours a clear amber with a tall beige head. Red fruits in the nose, candied sugars, toffee and carmel. Fruit flavors, lots of carmel, some heat and a weird bitterness. I pucker my lips to figure out what it is. The oakiness and earthiness with hop bitterness .... something about it makes me not want to drink it anymore.

2006 bottle. Pours a caramel color with very little head. Nice, dark aroma of malt, oak, nuts. Bit of toffee, perhaps. Flavor is rich and complex ... nice woodsy, earthy malt. Bit of hops there on the end. Liked this one a lot.

750ml bottle, 2006 vintage. Fragrant aroma, strongly scented with oak and caramelized malt sweetness, combined with touches of vanilla, toffee, and doughy, estery yeast, and featuring background hints of orange peel, cherry, earth and leafy hop spice. Vibrant medium-dark copper color, mostly clear, with a lasting, fine head and lacing to match. Flavor profile is also rife with tannic oak character throughout, along with a powerful, toasty, sugary maltiness, a substantial spicy, fruity and bitter hop presence, warming, peppery alcohol and tinges of almond, dried flowers, raisin and candy apple. Substantial, sticky mouthfeel with a plentiful body. Enjoyable.

Bottle. Tasted at Schlafly tasting at the Lukas KCMO wine bar. Nice barley wine. Aroma is sugary with a bit of the oak coming through. Taste is a bit more alcohol than I would like. Barley wine is good, though not as much body as I would like. I am also aging a bottle of this, hoping that helps.

Bottle: Deep caramel, large rocky off-white head, clumps of lacing. † Nose of maple syrup, caramel, candied orange peel, walnuts, vanilla, and bourbon. † A bit more simple on the tongue, warming bourbon, some alcohol is noticeable. † Also subtle elements of candied orange peel, grapefruit, and walnuts. † Slightly astringent, a little green, and definitely hot. † Body and mouthfeel are fairly moderate, just not enough malt backing for this big boy. † Lingering citrus peel, cookie dough, and young bourbon. † Tiz fairly good, but needs some time to settle down. † Young, immature, and likely not big enough to carry for more than a few years. † Could also stand to be a bit maltier. † Still enjoyable tho. † Thanks John for this one!

Bottle shared at the Columbus Tasting V: Orange/amber pour with a small off white head. Aroma of toffee, booze, candied fruits, and caramel malt came through with some light oak elements. Flavor was a bit hot...booze, toffe, caremel malt and a bit of red pepper. Hot and spicy mouthfeel...full body with a boozey hot finish. Nice attempt, but the execution is a bit muddled...too hot to feel any sort of balance.

Thankfully the clerk at the local shop let me know she thought this was much better close to room temperature. I hadnít heard the best about this one, but was presently surprised. Pours deep bronze / caramel with a beige head. The aroma is quite sweet with breadiness, biscuit, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, chestnet, passion fruit, red grapes and a hint of oak. Full body with a moderate amount of carbonation. The flavor starts with lots of biscuit, heavy sweet malt, some oak that seems more nutty than oaky, roasted toffee and some alcohol warmth. The finish adds maple syrup and more oakiness. This was a pleasant surprise. The Missouri brewers seem to be stepping it up lately. Now Iím getting psyched about the Boulevard 750s due out later this year.
