COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

2008 vintage poured from a 750ml bottle after cellaring an already 3-year old bottle for another 3 years plus. This 6-year old brew poured out a dense frothy dark brown mixture of bubbles and beer, which quickly settled down to leave an opaque black-brown liquid with a 1-finger tan head (that did not linger) and a small, but respectable, amount of lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla and wood. I think Bourbon may be in there too, but it's masked by the intensity of the dark fruit and other aromas. Taste of roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruit, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, caramel and charred oak. Very full body and medium carbonation with a mouthfeel that makes you wish it you could just let it linger in your mouth. I've tasted other vintages fresh. I'm not sure whether it's the aging or the vintage, but this bottle is better. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured a deep brown in my snifter. Not the big bold flavor expected from a barrel aged imperial stout but still very good. Big malt backbone that pronounces good flavor. It seems vanilla and banana notes come though the most. Nice on the palate, not bosey, not overly bitter. Good Impy stout, but not over the top. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

"i think only because i’ve had so may elite BB stouts, this is ends up not quite elite...but very very good nonetheless. big roasty chocolatey stout blends with a subtle at first but then more assertive bourbon. maybe too much peppery bourbon competes with the stout to make this just a touch lower than, say, Rasputin 12 or bourbon county, but it is quite good. probably a one timer given it’s scarcity and price."

4000 back to Missouri roots!!! My liver feels it. Good beer, dark chocolate, a little overbarrelled but still good. Maroonish black pour with mocha head and lacing. Lots of booze, could be from the barrel. Bitter finish with some caramel sweetness. Tap at smoke and barrel.

Bottle. Brown pour with tan head. Bourbon, oak and roasted aromas. Flavors are ok, chocolate roasted and other sweet malt tones.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a dark brown foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of vanilla and strong bourbon notes with sweet roasted malt notes. Taste is also dominated by loads of vanilla notes with strong bourbon notes and quite a bit of residual sugar notes with light black chocolate. Body is somewhat full with an oily like texture and medium carbonation with light warming alcohol notes. Bourbon notes are quite dominant but there is just too much residual sugar for my taste at the end of the day.

Very dark brown. Nose is whiskey, cherry. Same with choc on the flavour. Really full imperial stout, liked it.

Black color with small head. Some roasted malt and chocolate aroma, easy. Good body strength, moderately sweet; some chocolate flavor, some barrel, vanilla, whiskey.
Nice.
