COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Around the time of the Louisiana purchase, beer was shipped in barrels. if one had been lucky enough to receive a used Bourbon barrel of Imperial Stout, this is what his/her happy taste buds would have encountered: roasty, rich, malty imperial stout with a strong dose of caramel, oak, and Bourbon character. This is the perfect beer to pair with hearty, cold weather dishes, smoked meats, and virtually any dessert.

UPDATED: APR 28, 2013 From a 75 cl bottle shared with Westchesterco and Ryan. Vintage 2011. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma of vanilla, chocolate and oak. Chocolate dominates the flavor, with notes of raisins, caramel, oak and vanilla. Somewhat boozy, bourbon finish. Nice. Update for vintage 2008 shared at home, thanks to Andrew. Aged well. Mellower, but still with a boozy, bourbon finish.

2012 bomber to a tulip glass. Pours black to brown at edges with foamy, khaki head. Aroma is a balance of coffee, chocolate and dark fruits. Taste is milk chocolate and dark fruit up front with with a bourbon taste in the middle. Has a strong alcohol taste at the end. Coffee doesn't seem to come through in the taste. Full mouthfeel with alcohol warmth and noticeable carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark pour, not super thick, but quite dark. 2011 Reserve (bottled in 2012). A little tan head. Really nice bourbon nose on this one. Mellow, mellow, mellow - really nice bourbon character and flavor without being boozy. A lot of vanilla and caramel notes on this one - really nice!!

Pours a thick looking black... Looks like very low carbonation. Small tan head that lasts a while. Aromas of vanilla, oak, bourbon. First sip reveals a sweet balance of bourbon, some smokiness and heavy roast. Alcohol is hidden, this is not boozy. Not too much over the top bourbon flavor, which is a plus for me. This is a middle of the road bourbon barrel aged impy stout. I’ve had better.

2010 bottle. Black with small tan head. Aroma is all bourbon notes, heavy on vanilla. Opens thick but not malty, bourbon sets in fast. The bourbon is very strong, much stronger than any stout characteristics. Maybe its the age but this does not hide its ABV very well. Not bad at all, but not in line with what else is out there.

750ml bottle, poured a dark brown color with aromas of coffee, vanilla, oak, bourbon, and some feint cocoa. Flavors were a blend of the aromas with a light boozy aftertaste. An extremly nice stout that I wish I had more of.

Very good full bodied beer. Strong caramel flavor with hints of bourbon. This beer hit me as surprisingly strong so be careful, it will make you dizzy but it doesn't taste like it should. It is smooth and easy to drink. Great with chocolate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. pours a dark amber with medium tan head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is chocolate roast and smoke. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet vanilla and light roast with very smooth finish. Easy to drink hiding alcohol well, a very good imperial stout.
