4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: DEC 26, 2012 One of my favorites. 2010 is best release compared to 2008 and 2009. Very strong bourbon notes. A bit boozey, but I like that. A real head knocker and is best served lightly chilled and with a friend.

Thanks to Goliath for this one
I split this 2007 bottle with some friends poured into a pint glass produced a tan head that lasted on top of a black body. Just what a stout should look like.
The aromas of bourbon and malts and chocolate stood out to me. The flavors were incredible they of course followed the nose. But by now they melded to this elixir of the godís type flavor. It went down way to easy and to fast; the mouthfeel was full and thick. This is an incredible stout and with a little more than a year on this bottle. I would say deserving of more attention than it is getting.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 mL bottle from Grape & Gourmet (2008 bottle). Pours very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma that at first is mostly dark fruit but slowly fades to vanilla, oak, dark chocolate, and booze. The flavor is incredible. The bourbon barrel aging adds tremendous depth to this beer. There is no way you could miss the vanilla and oak upfront. Once you have had a chance to savor this one notes of dark chocolate cake make their way through and hints of dark fruits peek from the background. The alcohol is certainly detectable but only adds to the beer. This one is meant for sipping and savoring anyway. What an amazing beer.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2008 bottle. Amazing. Pours dark, oily and thick. Thin tan head. Aroma is bourbon whiskey, chocolate, malt for days, caramel, roasty. Taste is smooth yet strong. Not a ton of bite here but so much flavor. Whiskey, chocolate, caramel, vanilla; thereís an overall warmth that comes with this beer. Palate is oily. This is a beer I would drink all the time.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle: 2008: Thanks to Roy!
Small yellowish/off white head on top of a black beer.
Smell gas, toasted malts, liquorice, wood, oak, whiskey.
Taste is pretty straight in the beginning (chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, liquorice) but turns into a smooth, soft, lovely and very very well balanced imperial stout (soft and smooth: vanilla, light whiskey, espresso, wood).
Lovely and smooth soft aftertaste of vanilla, whiskey, coffee, dark chocolate, spices.
Low carbo, soft silky mouthfeel, full body, soft light oily texture.
Great barrel aged imperial stout!

Nice Impy Stout! Notes of bourbon in the nose. Flavor is chocolaty roasty malt. Finish clean. Notes of dark dark fruit, ripe fig, etc. Beautiful beer. Pours cola brown with not much head.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Dark brown, non viscous pour. Black in the glass with a small khaki head thatís pretty much just a ring. The aroma is strong, toasty, bourbon barrel, with molasses, brown sugar, and vanilla. Itís somewhat overpowering the original beer, but I can still pick out some roasted malts and coca. The flavor is sweet and resembles the aroma exactly, finishing with vanilla and alcohol. Although not super viscous, this has a great mouthfeel, with the perfect mix of mild carbonation, alcohol warmth, and sticky body. This was better than I had anticipated and I will definitely seek this one out again.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma is sweet caramel with a hint of black cherry and alcohol. Almost no head and pours a dark molasses color. Feels thick without being as syruppy as I thought. The bourbon is very strong in the taste with hints of cocoa just behind it. The finish is almost like a brandy. overall, not very stoutlike but very tasty.

Poured 22 oz into a brandy glass. Nice oak and vanilla amora. Jet black with a slight caramel head. Malty, caramel, and vanilla notes with a fizzy co2 release on the palate. This is an excellent sample of a barrel age imperial stout. Would love to see how this ages.
