CaptainCougar (4663), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jul 14, 2006 Pours a transparent copper amber with a thin, wispy lightly-lacing white head. Sweet, toasty caramel and mild peaty aroma. Body starts with a nice caramel malty sweetness with a touch of earthy hop character but little bitterness. Finishes somewhat thin. hopscotch (4579), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Mar 3, 2003 This beer rocks!
Now this is the way a Scotch Ale ought to be brewed. But, in St. Louis?
It pours oily with a deep copper hue. The medium-sized head is frothy and khaki-colored. Fully diminishing with no lacework.
The aroma is very nice. Malt, Malt, Malt with notes of molasses, prunes, caramel, milk chocolate and tawny port.
The flavor is rich and malty up front with blasts of milk chocolate, warm alcohol and caramel. Very well-hopped. Moderately bitter and slightly astringent on the backside. Also, slightly pungent.
Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation.
Lengthy, dry, fizzy and astringent finish with damp oak at the wee end.
Excellent cold, wet weather beer. HopScotch likes this Scotch Ale.
