4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
12 oz from Chuck’s in Bowling Green. Thanks Steamhead! Aroma of bourbon and caramel. Extremely thin white head. Moderate carbonation in a body that is deep amber tending toward red. Pears, white raisins, flan. Somewhat thin on the hops, but everything else about this blend of barleywine and pale ale is perfection. The thick bourbon barrel aroma leads you to expect a really heavy taste, but it is in fact a quick drinker. The brewer says only 300 cases of this initial run were produced, and only distributed in Kentucky and nearby. Really glad I got to try this one. Unique. One of my new favorites.

A wonderful mouthfull of carmel sweets and the unmistakable bourbon notes. It is no wonder this is a hard beer to get. I will be putting some of this up.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Coppery amber body with a thin head and sticky streaks of lacing. Big yet calm aroma of bourbon as well as a hefty dose of caramel followed by sauteed nuts, vanilla and wood. Creamy and really mild compared to my expectations. Rich and smooth, very soft and enjoyable. Sweet vanilla and oak flavors with plenty of barrel goodness. A faint citrus backdrop became more evident as the beer progressed. Lots of roasted and caramel malts. Extremely solid brew, thanks to Louis for sending this up my way.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
First, huge thanks to brother Lou (bluesandbarbq to those on BP) for sending me this beauty. I was able to share it and about 14 other beers for my brothers 44th birthday party and it was fantastic.
The beer pours out a solid copper/amber color, clear with a pillowy off-white fluffy merengue head. Big time vanilla in the aroma, with waffle-cone-like aroma’s wafting upward combining the cooked caramel, vanilla wrapped goodness all around. On the palate, the strength of the beer is the bourbon-y goodness that asserts itself right there...on the spot. The bourbon, some caramel, the vanilla, some alcohol...all done incredibly well. This is my first beer from Schlafly and damned if it wasn’t firing on all cylinders right from the get go.

On tap at local shop; really surprised, since I didnt have high expectations, not a bourbon fan. Def. worth a try again, Schlafly is one of the best out there. Price is a little scary for most, but its next on my list of 6-packs.

Thanks to Paul for this awesome beer. I’ve been holding onto it for my last beer, with the exception of the other bourbon i have set away for at least a year. Pours a beautiful copper-mahogany colour with a modest sized off white head. (Just saw fret put the same head description, whoa!) I’m all stuffed up from all the drywalling i was doing today but i can detect a bit of bourbon. Taste was smooth and mouthfilling with some whiskey and almond notes shining through. Rich cherry, apple and cinnamon flavours on the finish. Just a faint touch of bitterness rounds out this well balanced brew. Thanks Paul for sharing this great beer with me!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle poured into a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale snifter.
Appearance is a hazy dark orange with a tiny head that quickly dissipates. Not really any lacing.
Smells is heavy sweet caramel and vanilla. Not a strong bourbon note but you can tell it’s there.
Flavor is fairly sweet with caramel being predominant. The bourbon is not quite as prominent as I would have liked and almost seems to take a back seat. Vanilla and oak are there but caramel dominates. Mouthfeel is full.
This is a good beer but still doesn’t stand up to kentucky bourbon barrel ale. If the sweetness was just toned down a bit and the bourbon a little more pronounced this beer would be amazing.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Party Source. Pours a cloudy deep amber with thin, lasting head. Flavor has caramel, apple, oak, and raisin. Might be a little too complex for my palate, but it tastes pretty good.
