COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Schlafly Tripel has patiently awaited joining the ranks of our bottle-conditioned Belgian-style ale series. It was the first festival ale for our HOP in the City beer festival which makes it dear to us. Tripel is hearty with a golden hue and a rich, fruity character. While this ale is light in color, it is fuller bodied than many darker ales. The characteristics make it a great after-dinner drink and a perfect complement to aged cheeses and fruity desserts. We age this ale for months before it touches a bottle, but, if you have the will power, it will improve for years to come.

750, capped. Wow, what a gorgeous bottle. Thanks, BVC! Hazy medium gold with plenty of rising carb and some loose white foam. Creamy butter and green apple nose. A little bit of fusel there as well. Sharp fizzy body. Caramel, apple, and sweet cream on the mid-palate. Long creamy finish after a big boozy twang hits you.

Golden bodied with crisp head. Honey and fruit aromas with light fusels. Estery body with tangyiness and moderate fusel underpinning. This one is showing off a bit too much of its alcohol for my liking. Just saw the comment my MmmcKay regarding Boulevard’s Long Strange Tripel and couldn’t agree more. I had Boulevard’s Tripel the same day as the Schlafly and Long Strange was leaps and bounds better.

Great looking packaging, but that’s about all that I really liked about this beer. Yellow golden blond in color. This beer had very little head. The nose and flavors were very one note. That one note was of tropical fruit and more specifically banana. Below average Tripel, especially for the price, $12.99. Try Boulevard Long Strange instead.

In short: A sweet (too sweet) basic Triple. Below average for the style.
How: Bottle 750ml. Tasting session with Montreal crew.
The look: Cloudy golden blonde body topped by a small white head
In long: Taste is unfortunately dominated by honey and this sweet beer even gets crunchy-sugary. Too much residual sugars. Beneath the honey are some light but pleasant fruity notes of apricots, bananas and tropical fruits. Light fruity/citrusy hops presence but this beer needs a ton of dry/grassy noble hops. Long sweet finish. I don’t know what they were attempting here but if they tried to make a by-the-book tripel I assume they took a book written by the Ikea writing team and in which case we’re lucky we didn’t end-up with a trout flavoured beer.

Narnad was kind enough to bring a bottle of this to a wedding and split it with me, what a guy! Poured golden with lots of bubbles, a small-to-medium white head. Black pepper, clove and banana aroma. I didn’t really pick up an alcohol aroma, but could really taste it - wow was it hot. Otherwise, flavor had a decent wheat tanginess, fruity banana esters and a touch of lemon peel. Solid, but I think it could use a few months of bottle conditioning.

(Rating #2422)

Poured a hazy yellow color with a small, fizzy, off-white head that provided excellent lacing. Aroma is a mixture of cloves, grainy pils malt, lot of alcohol, light yeast notes, some very light banana hints and a slight lemon/orange citrus toward the ends. Flavor follow the aroma with an early light banana, lemon citrus and yeasty flavors which move into a dry, alcoholic ending. The tripel has a moderate density but the alcohol makes it feel a little harsh at times. Overall a good tripel and well worth the price (which isn’t bad at all for this style and volume your getting).

My Bottom Line:
A spicy and citrusy hop nose leaks onto the doughy yeast and honeyed cereals in this warming interpretation of the Tripel style.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam covers the cloudy golden.
-I found this to be a little sweeter than the usual Tripel.
-The hop personality is also herbal throughout.
-Ginger-like spiciness is clearly tasted.

Bottle.

Pours carbonated and golden w/little to no head. Smells sweet and slightly wheaty, and definite hints of alcohol. Taste is extremely smooth and hints of alcohol. I really like this because it doesn’t have a harsh wheat finish and has a nice flavor profile. This is worth a try in my opinion.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, golden body with a smallish, white head. Smell: Rather sweet-smelling aroma of pilsner malts awaiting a wheelbarrow full of toothsome candi sugar supported by notes of fresh fruit and, ever so slightly, some spices. Taste: Ample pils malts along with fresh pears, white grapes, and citrus glazed with layers upon layers of sweet, gooey candi sugar. Low bitterness. One small, tiny pinch of spice. Finishes sweet and fruity with plenty of alcohol warmth to invigorate the soul and enliven the senses. Mouthfeel: Medium-full body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: Though I’m left wanting just a bit more spice character and a slightly drier finish, it’s still a very tasty American-born tripel simply loaded with potential.
