Schlafly Tripel has patiently awaited joining the ranks of our bottle-conditioned Belgian-style ale series. It was the first festival ale for our HOP in the City beer festival which makes it dear to us. Tripel is hearty with a golden hue and a rich, fruity character. While this ale is light in color, it is fuller bodied than many darker ales. The characteristics make it a great after-dinner drink and a perfect complement to aged cheeses and fruity desserts. We age this ale for months before it touches a bottle, but, if you have the will power, it will improve for years to come.

Tasted at St. Louis BrewFest, May 12, 2007. Very nice Belgian ale from Schlafly, with some interesting spiciness and a nice mouthfeel. Good.

On tap at the tap room. Aroma is loaded with banana, major banana with a few spicy notes. Reminds me of a strong wiess so far. Very cloudy golden yellow with a thin head. Sweet banana-malt flavor with a touch of clove and other spices. Warming, alcoholic finish. A little too simple to be a good tripel. Medium-full body with a sweet and creamy texture. Trade some of that banana flavor for more complex Belgian yeast flavors and make the finish a little drier and this would be much better.

On Tap at Schlafly’s Tap Room . Pours clear gold with a small / moderate sized white head. The aroma is cloying thick candied malt with essence of banana. Medium body with only a little bit of carbonation. The flavor starts with syrupy malt that is quite sweet and also has the bananas from the aroma. The finish has a sharp bunch - spice, sour and fizz. There is also some nectar fruit that lingers around a bit. The finish also has a bit of harshness to it. This is an okay beer, but not close to tripel standards. Never a favorite from the brewery.

draft at Schlafly Tap Room. color is a luminescent yellow, gold with a white head atop. aroma is yeast and clove. flavor is more of the same with some banana and hints of pepper and spice. lively carbonation and alcohol is well hidden. not bad, just not my style.

Cloudy golden color with a heavy off white head. Aromas of bananas and cloves really hit the nose. Not as much yeast character as I would look for. Sweet wheat flavors with some more spices of pepper and cinnamon. Seems to have more qualities of a blonde weissbock, but a very good beer nonetheless.

From a growler, thanks Drew. Poured a light cloudy gold. The aroma was banana, peaches and cinnamon. The taste had banana, vanilla, spicy cinnamon and a black pepper finish. A nice spicy tripel.

Pour is golden with a small white head. Aroma is pure sugar with a touch of citrus. Flavor is wonderful. Lots of citrus, banana and candy cane sugar. An outstanding example of the style brewed right here in my own backyard.

Draft from the Tap Room. Good banana, yeast and bread nose. Pale golden hue. Aromas of citrus, sweet yeast, bananas, bubblegum. Spiced and slightly bitter. More so like a hefe, but still very nice.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2006 Wow. Straight from the tank with Mitch from Schlafly. Pours a hazy gold, thick head and great lacing. Aroma is banana (with a hint of peel), nutmeg, clove, and sweet caramel. Slight alcohol in the nose. Flavor is BIG and complex. More of the aroma, and an incredibly dry, almost tart finish. A really great tripel.

tap-hop in the city05-pours light orange with a sudsy white head and some lacing. sweet, grany, slightly tropical aroma-faint banans and corriander. this is more accurate than the dubbel in terms of style guidelines. wow, big sweet banana, corriander, lightly grainy and clove as well. no funk but in not expecting it from an american brewer. the abv is nowhere to be found, maybe due to some aging. some green apple comes out in the finish, showing the age of this beer. pretty tasty at least for an american trippel.
