Schlafly Tripel has patiently awaited joining the ranks of our bottle-conditioned Belgian-style ale series. It was the first festival ale for our HOP in the City beer festival which makes it dear to us. Tripel is hearty with a golden hue and a rich, fruity character. While this ale is light in color, it is fuller bodied than many darker ales. The characteristics make it a great after-dinner drink and a perfect complement to aged cheeses and fruity desserts. We age this ale for months before it touches a bottle, but, if you have the will power, it will improve for years to come.

Pours clear gold into a tulip. Bright white head with excellent retention recedes to skim surface leaving spot lacing. Sweet candi and alcohol aromas. Sweet and hot with front to back roasted caramel and hay. Burning finish.

750 ml bottle from Canal’s Hainesport. Pours a good looking mostly clear light ornge body with an average sized fluffy super bright white head. Aroma is all over the place. Initial aroma is grainy and slightly sweet. Next aromas of appl cider vinegar, buble gum, bananan peels, and lots of alcohol creep in. The body is fuller with some noticeable alcohol warming, a fuller mouthfeel with super strong carbonation and a dry finish. Flavors of grains, dry banana peels, alcohol and old dried out sugar.Sorry but I’ve had much better triples then this.

Draft served in a snifter at the Tap Room. Pours a cloudy orange-gold with a small, creamy white head. Aroma of tangerine, apricot, yeast, floral notes, candi sugar, and malts. Flavor is very similar, with some grass, caramel, and wheat. Medium-bodied, with soft carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. A little spice in the background. Alcohol is completely hidden. Pretty solid beer.

750mL sampled at Shenandoah Throwdown. Good cloudy yellow body with a thick0ish white head that has good retention and lace. Excellent sourish nose with lactic acid coming through atop rich, sour green pears and light citrus peel. Taste is sweet oranges, candi sugar, slight booziness, spices, pears. Really nice- a big surprise.

Big fancy bottle. Pours a fairly clear gold color (second glass from the bottle is very cloudy, with tons of floaties, however) with a very large fizzy white head that dies down pretty slowly and leaves lots of suds on the sides of the glass. Aromas are sweet and spicy... Lots of honey and dough, a bit oi pear and apple fruitiness and cloves to balance it out. Flavor is very similar, but borders on a little too robust (especially the stinging alcohol). This is big, sweet and very assertive.

There’s a little cotton-candy aroma here, then its got lots of that wintery spice, clove, coriander, grass and some yeast. The flavor is crisp at the start, then a little bready softness, closing off with a bitter carbonated snap. Overall quite enjoyable. I would turn this into a regular drinker if I could get it here.
