4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Cloudy pale golden colored. Yeasty, lemony sour aroma. Light and fizzy on the tongue. Bright and dry malt flavors-apricots and sherry. Incredibly well disguised 10% abv. After putting all this work and all that malt into this beer, I would like to have some more assertive flavor and aroma knocking on my noggin. I suspect too much sugar and an overreliance on a venerable yeast strain. Still, a very pleasing quaff.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
750mL bottled with love on 1 2313, consumed here on 6 1414. Nose is sweet and dusty, light hay and still-bright lemony citrus, light floral background and some of the sweetness I associate with things like spelt and buckwheat. Yeasty notes with controlled jammy fruit, though no yeast to be seen in the body. Pours clear golden with strong carbonation and a sudsy beige head. Taste is lightly sweet, medium tart, low bitterness with medium alcohol warmth that ticks up with every sip; slick and strongly oily, tons of phenolic development with slighter esters. Touch of pepper under clove and jam, bits of sugar in the full body, and extremely (exquisitely) effervescent. Hay and very light grass, but otherwise straight, strong golden malt up the middle, classic sugary tripel. They just made this one way, way too hot, it’s every bit its 10% abv, but it’s enjoyable in the giddy sugar-rush of received good news (for food and conversation with company rather than moody contemplation in Beethoven’s melancholy), if not exactly recommendable in general.

2.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle from GRM. Light yellow with an off white head. Candied smoked meat with some reminants of a five alive can and lots of malt, develops into a bit of a rancid orange juice box taste as things start to ferment, continues to be quite malty, somewhat booze. This one was a little odd for me.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rated on 7-06-2011 (Bottle) This beer pours a medium sized frothy, fizzy white head that mostly diminishes, transparent golden body lively, fast rising carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing adorns my glass. The aroma is rich malt, sweet, fruity, and some clove. The taste is semi-sweet, malty, fruity, candy sugar, rich, clove, and has a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is lively and this beer is medium bodied. This is a sipping beer at 10%ABV. The flavor seemed a bit off and thus makes this beer a disappointment for me since this is one of my favorite beer styles.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle: Thanks, Jason! Hazed, golden-yellow color with a foamy white film & collar resting softly on top. Aroma has some grass, grains, a hint of lactic tartness, slight yeast, mild funk, & a finish of lemon zest. Almost like a cross between tripel & Berliner weisse. Taste is very, very spicy Belgian yeast, more so than the aroma indicates. White pepper, bittering ashy hops, potent phenols, some mint, abrasive yeasty esters, a closing touch of clove, & a solidifying barnyard essence from start to finish. Thick bodied, high & sharp carbonation. Aroma & taste didn’t match... smelled more soft & tart, taste was quite aggressive with lots of spicy Belgian yeast. Not bad, but not really my thing.

Bottle: The aroma consists of citrus, yeast, apple, and a touch of spice. It pours a transparent golden-orange with a one finger white head that fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There’s a good amount of thin webbing on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with citrus, candi sugar, light honey, and yeast. The finish apple, faint floral notes, and a hint of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with moderate-lively carbonation.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap pours a hazy golden yellow with a finger of white foam. The aroma is musty Belgian pale malts. The flavor starts with a light tartness and rich Belgian musty flavor, very grainy. It stays musty but some sweetness comes in, it is quite simple and easy to drink for 10%. The brew gets a little stronger with warmth but doesn’t get too abrasive or sweet, it retains an old Belgian musty funky earthy feel throughout with some lemon peel coming out as it warms a while adding depth. Interesting and we’ll done.
