Being a genuine Bavarian type of beer it distinguishes from all “Lager beers” and the usual “Bavarian light beer” through its full-bodied, malt-flavoured and characteristic taste. One particularity of Schlappeseppel Export is the use of “aromatic hops” incorporating all the sense of taste and smell harmonically.
Silver medal at the World-Beer-Cup 2002. Contains: water, barley malt, hops, hop extract. Brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law from 1516.

Test vom 25.3.2006 Noten: 14,14,15,14,14,15 - 14,55

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Golden, with a load of foam which was caused by my over zealous pouring and thus spilled on my Formica work surface. Solid, mighty golden lager goodness. Some white bread and some white sugar also. Smooth and hearty.

0.5 l bottle, thanks Timo A! Pale golden color. Sweet honeyish malt and hay aroma. Sweet honeyish malty flavor. Very straightworward malty beer, hint of herbal hops and low bitterness. Medium body.

Bottle by 05.06.2012. Lightly metallic, thin malty nose. Very pale golden with a sudsy off-white head. Not a lot of flavor here; faint malt edging to corn with light alcohol (though thankfully not super boozy), very heavy medium body with a whisp of crispness. Amazing how bland this is, I’ve had more flavorful homebrew made from ingredient cans with a packet of yeast taped to the top (and who knows how long it lay there).

I bought my first 0.5l "Schlappe-Seppel" back in 1989 (in the US Army stationed in Darmstadt, Hessen, Germany) and I was presented a golden blond Export beer with a two-finger white head. It certainly lives up to its "helles (light)" appearance. The smell was a pleasant aroma of floral hops and a bit of citrus coupled with lager yeast notes as well. The taste had a slight spice to it and presented a full and rich body. The color is deceptive, and this was a flavorful brew that had just the right amount of hop and malt flavor. The malt body was slightly sweet, but appetizingly so and not overdone. Everything is very laid back with this beer, but full of rich flavor. The consistency was outstanding and the carbonation was refreshingly mild as well. Well, not knowing German beers like I know then now, I was caught off guard by this one, but not surprise at all, due to its namesake in the region of Bavaria (Gross Ostheim, Aschaffenburg, Germany). The balance of this beer, excellent flavor, and easy drinkability make this one hell of a good brew. One of the best I have had the privilege of drinking, and very highly recommended.
