Schlappeseppel Special is brewed with special malts. These malts already contain caramelized sugar. About 60 % of the quality of this beer can be traced back to this harmonic flavour. The result is an amber-coloured, full-bodied, balanced beer.

Flip-top bottle, pouredlight amber with a medium-fine head and a malty nose with hints of honey and pine. Body is initially dry with biscuit notes, then sweetening slightly with a little golden fruit and a little toasted nut, and finally lightly dry-bitter. Pleasant.

330 ml, swing top bottle, poured into an english pint glass. ABV 5.6% Very deep yellow golden colour on the body, without any activity in it. Big head, something more than two fingers, white in colour and soapy. Good retention, it left some light lacing around the glass. Heavy aroma of malts, followed by hops but very faint, even when I shook the glass a bit. Also, alcohol notes, although the ABV is not that high. Lots of malts on the taste too, along with wet hay and grass. Moderately sweet taste, becomes just a tiny bit bitter on the aftertaste. Medium thick body, good carbonation. Fairly dry on the palate. Not bad, but not that good either.

33cl Bottle from bierkoning, thanks Edo! Clear light amber colour, white head. Aroma of caramel, bread, nuts, light fruity. Flavour is light to medium-sweet, caramel, nutty bitterness, light fruity, light grainy, bitter light hoppy finish. Light-bodied, prickly carbonation. OK.

A student’s pub in Marburg. Full clear golden body, lasting chalky medium white head. Malty nose, crappy dust, hay. Underlying sweetness. Lovely maltiness really, brittle, full, fruitiness, ending sorta on a watery note. Not much hop. Likable stuff though.

Clear light orange with small white foam head. Aroma is heavy barley with small sweet. Taste is bittersweet with yeast and alcohol tones, some grass. Aftertaste is short little bittersweet, barley again. (Velp 201212)

33cl Flip-top bottle @ home on 4th Nov 2012, poured into a ’Good People’ badged straight sleeve. Dark gold with a good foam covering of white foam which wanted to leave as quickly as possible for some reason. Malty nose with roasted and toasted notes with a yeast twist as it warmed a little in the glass. Semi-sweet malty molasses rule the taste with a mini-hop finish that gives the beer a crisp bitterness towards the end of each sip. Nicely carbonated and easy to drink.
