3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. The smell of fresh bread, moderate malty, light yeasty, nice aroma. A large white creamy head, which is long lasting. The body is clear and orange. Light acidic and sweet, quite malty taste. Medium to long duration. Soft carbonation, creamy texture, medium body. A nice beer, a surprise.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
14-Jul-08 (330-ml swing-top bottle, Best by 18-Oct-08: Free sample bottle for stewarding the 2008 World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA) In addition to the mediocre core flavors, other problems plague this beer. It’s malt-dominated, but inappropriately caramely and honey-sweet. But more importantly, the metallic, oxidized and cardboardy flavors are strong enough in the finish as to overwhelm the malty entry, so despite the promising start, the unpleasant aftertaste ruins the beer. In the nose, oxidization and metallic aromas dominate. Body is light-medium -- a bit thin for the style -- and carbonation is soft and gentle. The bright, crystal-clear, amber body is initially topped by a small, off-white head that fades to a partial film and wide ring. Even without the off-flavors contributing to a bad aftertaste, this beer might still only be passable at best.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Dark yellow colored, medium sized white head. Buttery and sweet, mildly hopped aroma, some cardboard also here. Thin to medium bodied. Flavor is also the same, dry hops and cardboard, some toffee here. Still rather boring brew.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Not exactly swill, but it’s definitely insipid. Faint malty aroma, mild flavor, and a finish that is less than memorable. I suppose it’s better than most other maerzens, but being good in a lousy class just doesn’t do it for me.
